Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Kol Sephardic Choir (KSC) will commission three new choral arrangements of historic Ladino songs and make them freely available through our website, which serves as an online library, which will expand access to this endangered cultural tradition. KSC will also present at least one concert, reaching 200+ community members, featuring collaborations with flamenco artists that celebrate the shared roots of Hispanic and Jewish heritage. Dedicated to preserving Ladino, the language of Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, KSC brings songs once passed down orally and in secret to new audiences. Recognized by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture and the City of West Hollywood, KSC plays a vital role in safeguarding and revitalizing this unique artistic legacy for future generations.
Organization Summary
The Kol Sephardic Choir (ROSE) is a diverse and multicultural musical ensemble that performs concerts for the community throughout the year that highlight the fascinating intersection of Latino and Jewish culture. Kol Sephardic Choir also preserves this musical tradition by publishing tradition melodies that have traditionally been passed down orally, ensuring that there is a library of Ladino music available for the community and for future generations.
