Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Songwriter Sanctuary San Diego will expand access to live music through a multi-layered initiative that centers disability inclusion. Funding will provide fully supported ASL interpretation across the 2027 concert season, ensuring consistent, proactive access and inclusion rather than accommodation by request. The project also includes targeted outreach to Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities, and two accessibility-focused workshops for participating artists to learn and champion best practices wherever their journeys take them. In parallel we will research, develop, and pilot an accessible livestream ticketing and/or public broadcast model to extend access beyond our physical space. Together, these efforts move beyond compliance to embed accessibility into the artistic experience, creating a pathway for small, community-based venues seeking to expand equitable participation in the arts.
