With support from the California Arts Council, KALADHAARA ARTS ACADEMY will create/present of two multidisciplinary Bharatanatyam productions – Elemental Continuum, Meera. Through multilingual storytelling, music and dance, these works explore themes of nature, philosophical identity and cultural continuity through Indian classical dance.
Funds will support artist and instructor stipends, multidisciplinary collaborators, musicians, technical personnel, research consultants in poetry, musicology, architecture, and production expenses including lighting, costumes, props, and venue costs. The project prioritizes youth engagement and equitable access and funds will support free or subsidized workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and performances for students and underserved communities. In partnership with schools and community organizations, youth ages 0–25 will participate as learners and performers, building creative skills, cultural literacy, and self-expression. CAC support will enable accessible, culturally responsive arts experiences that foster social-emotional development and expand youth participation in arts.
The organization provides year-round training in Bharatanatyam dance, Carnatic music, and devotional Bhajans through a standards-based curriculum that includes level placement, structured syllabi, and a biannual assessment cycle. Students receive ongoing individualized feedback, ensuring that instruction is responsive to different learning needs and that all participants—regardless of experience level—have clear pathways for artistic growth.
One-on-one training on a need-be basis is provided to address the student’s weak areas. Additionally, Yoga, meditations are included as mandatory topics to sharpen the student’s capabilities at a holistic level.
