With support from the California Arts Council, Herencia Mariachi Academy (HMA) will provide culturally responsive mariachi music instruction to youth and emerging musicians in the Inland Empire. The program will offer ongoing workshops focused on instrumental technique, vocal training, and ensemble performance rooted in traditional Mexican music.
CAC grant funds will support artist and instructor stipends, facility rental, and culturally relevant instructional materials and supplies. Funds will also support outreach efforts to increase access for underserved communities.
This program will preserve and promote mariachi as a vital cultural art form while fostering artistic expression, skill development, and community engagement. The program will culminate in a public performance showcasing participant growth and strengthening cultural pride.
It is our hope to provide the children of our community with a safe haven, where they can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for mariachi music and its culture. We want to reach the youth through our heritage of mariachi music, while introducing them to its origins and evolution. Our vision is to teach them to read, play and perform mariachi music. We want to help them channel their talents and express their emotions through mariachi music.
