With support from the California Arts Council, Mending of Mothers Inc. (MOM) will implement Art of Opportunity: Richmond, serving 75 underserved children, youth, and young adults (ages 0–24). This community-rooted, arts-based program provides creative expression, healing, early learning, and workforce readiness through culturally responsive programming.
The initiative activates the Richmond Museum of History & Culture as a community hub, addressing a key barrier: many underserved residents are unaware they have access to a local museum. Through free programming, participants will engage in hands-on art, guided tours, and career-connected learning experiences.
By integrating art, wellness, and career pathways, the program strengthens confidence, increases access to the arts, and creates opportunities for long-term educational and economic success.
Mending of Mothers Inc. (MOM) delivers holistic, workforce-centered programs that empower underserved mothers, youth, and families to achieve economic stability and long-term success.
MOM’s Workforce Development & Job Readiness (Strength to Succeed) program provides hands-on training in resume building, interview preparation, workplace readiness, and career exploration. Participants are connected to hiring events, employer partners, and ongoing job placement support.
Financial Literacy & Economic Empowerment is embedded across all programs, equipping participants with skills in budgeting, saving, credit building, and banking. Through partnerships, participants can open checking and savings accounts, building a foundation for financial stability.
MOM offers Wraparound Support Services, including childcare assistance, transportation support, meals, clothing resources, and stipends.
MOM also leads Youth Career Exploration & Sacramento Youth Career Fest (SRYCF), connecting students to employers, colleges, and career pathways through hands-on workshops, internships, and financial literacy experiences.
Through the partnership with Volunteer of America, MOM’s Healthy Habits & Family Stability Program supports families in transitional housing with life skills training, nutrition education, financial literacy, and mental wellness resources to strengthen household stability.
Through a partnership with the Crocker Art Museum, MOM offers Art Therapy & Mental Wellness programs that promote healing, creativity, and emotional well-being designed to support underserved mothers, youth, and families experiencing housing instability, trauma and economic hardship.
