The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra’s Sound Equity program will deliver six free educational chamber music recitals and interactive workshops at public schools in Barrio Logan, San Diego. Building on a pilot at Perkins School in May 2026, the program will expand to additional campuses, including Monarch School, Logan Memorial Education Campus, and King-Chavez Academy of Excellence. Professional teaching artists, paid at fair market rates, will lead each session. CAC funds will support artist fees, transportation, and culturally responsive program materials. Designed as a sustainable, high-impact model, the series fosters meaningful engagement across multiple sites and encourages repeat interactions to deepen learning. Sound Equity expands equitable access to live classical music, supports youth creativity and self-expression, and removes financial, geographic, and cultural barriers to arts participation, serving approximately 1,000–1,200 students annually.
The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra delivers a range of high-quality musical programs that serve the community through performance, education, and artistic development. Our core programs include:
Mainstage Concert Series:
A season of orchestral concerts featuring a diverse repertoire of classical masterworks, contemporary compositions, and guest soloists. These performances aim to engage a broad audience and elevate the cultural landscape of Coronado and the greater San Diego region.
Young Soloist Competition and Concert:
An annual program that identifies and showcases outstanding young musicians. Finalists are selected through a formal audition process and awarded the unique opportunity to perform as soloists with the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra. This program fosters youth development, confidence, and excellence in performance.
Community and Educational Outreach:
The orchestra offers educational presentations, open rehearsals, and workshops for students and families. These initiatives are designed to build appreciation for orchestral music and to make live classical performance accessible to underserved communities and young audiences.
Collaborative Projects and Local Partnerships:
We actively collaborate with local arts organizations, schools, and cultural institutions to bring music into diverse settings and to support a vibrant artistic community. These efforts may include joint concerts, special events, or multidisciplinary performances.
Through these programs, the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra fulfills its mission to promote musical excellence, provide educational opportunities, and build meaningful connections between the arts and the community.
