Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Wonder Center will expand its art and wellness programming to provide youth, especially those navigating adversity, with meaningful access to creative experiences that support mental health, healing, growth, and self-expression. Funding will support in-school and community-based programming where youth engage in visual arts, storytelling, and other creative practices to explore identity, process life experiences, and build confidence. Youth will play an active role in shaping programming, ensuring their voices, ideas, and perspectives are reflected in the work. Local artists will serve as mentors and guides, leading culturally grounded experiences that reflect the community and uplift diverse narratives. Through this work, youth will strengthen critical life skills, build connections, and develop confidence to express themselves and navigate their future.

Organization Summary

Wonder Center core programs and services are designed to meet individuals where they are, responding to pressing realities while supporting long-term healing and growth. A central part of this work is our art and wellness programming; through which we create safe, supportive spaces where youth can process mental health challenges and build emotional resilience through creative expression. Grounded in the belief that art it both powerful and accessible, this program not only fosters healing, connection and self-discovery, but also intentionally supports local artist development. We uplift artists as leaders, mentors, and guides, equipping them to shape creative spaces and nurture emerging voices. This is especially impactful for youth, as it helps both artists and participants explore identity, strengthen confidence, and find their voce through meaningful artistic practice. At the same time, Wonder Center operates though a broader set of programs that address the full scope of participants’ lived experiences. Our care package program provides essential items to individuals facing hardship, serving as both immediate support and an entry point to additional resources and opportunities. Community beautification projects bring residents together to revitalize shared spaces through art and service, fostering pride, connection and a sense of ownership within the community. We also offer faith-based guidance as an optional source of encouragement and reflection, providing a welcoming space for spiritual support and peace. Together, these programs reflect a holistic approach, where arts, wellness and community-based supports work in tandem to ensure people are not only creatively engaged, but also empowered, stable, and positioned for long-term growth.
