L.A. Dance Project (LADP) is more than a dance company: it’s a resolutely innovative performing arts organization. Under the direction of celebrated choreographer Benjamin Millepied, LADP is committed to the pursuit of artistic innovation and excellence in contemporary dance.

Founded in 2012, LADP opened the doors to its own studio and theater in downtown Los Angeles in 2017. Yearly, LADP welcomes over 6,000 people to its space for its multi-tiered programming and reaches thousands more through global touring. LADP’s programming falls into three channels:

LADP Performs is the presentation of new choreographic commissions and revivals of historic work rarely seen by today’s audiences, performed by LADP’s company of seven dancers. Since its inception, LADP has performed in more than 100 cities across six continents and danced over 57 works by Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied and other renowned choreographers such as Martha Graham, Kyle Abraham, Justin Peck, William Forsythe, Bobbi Jene Smith, Merce Cunningham, and Ohad Naharin. Cross-genre collaboration is a hallmark of LADP with past collaborators including Mark Bradford, Barbara Kruger, Njideka Akunyili, and Andy Akiho.

LADP Community is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dance artists and audiences. These community initiatives are anchored by a free annual Summer Dance Intensive for students from Everybody Dance LA!, a peer non-profit, who reside in LA’s economically low-resourced communities plus free performances, Q&As, and masterclasses for public school students. For its broader community, LADP keeps ticket prices low (at $45 or less) and hosts free open rehearsals, Q&As, and community performances.

LADP Presents is LADP’s programming arm that provides a platform to present works from affiliate artists in its theater. The core of LADP Presents is LAUNCH:LA, an annual, three-week artist residency which provides LA-based emerging dancemakers historically underrepresented in the field with critical resources to create and present new work.
