With support from the California Arts Council, Songwriter Sanctuary San Diego will use General Operating Support funds to strengthen organizational capacity and sustain its community-centered, artist-compensating concert series. Currently, much of the organization’s administrative and programmatic work is coordinated through a single leadership role led by a disabled, queer mother, creating a capacity bottleneck. Funds will support the transition to a more distributed and sustainable structure through the establishment of a formal payroll system, including modest compensation for key personnel in administrative, production, and program support roles. Support will also allow for contracted bookkeeping services to further strengthen administrative capacity and organizational compliance. These investments will improve operational efficiency, reduce strain on leadership, and build a stronger foundation for continued public programming while maintaining equitable artist compensation and community access.
