With support from the California Arts Council, Piece by Piece will offer free therapeutic art workshops for underserved women from Skid Row and South Los Angeles who have experienced domestic violence, homelessness, or other traumatic life events.

Often suffering low self-worth as a result of domestic violence these women (mostly 50+/Women of Color) face financial insecurity, unstable housing, limited work experience, and few opportunities to improve their socio-emotional or financial status or opportunities for personal growth.

Scientific research demonstrates that participating in the arts can lead to improved cognitive abilities, reduced stress hormones, and promote measurable progress in healing from trauma. The project will focus on an accessible fused glass technique that enables participant artists to achieve nearly immediate artistic success, resulting in the creation of fulfilling works of art and improved sense of wellbeing.
