Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, REALITY IMPROV CONNECTION INC will implement four BRITE Creative Labs cohorts serving middle and high school youth in Santa Paula, Fillmore, and Piru.
Creative Labs increases access to arts learning for youth in communities where economic, geographic, and language barriers limit participation. Participants engage in structured multidisciplinary arts workshops led by professional teaching artists in improvisation, performance, visual arts, music, and media production while developing creative skills, confidence, self-expression, and connection to their communities.
The program is culturally responsive and inclusive, with bilingual support and accessible practices. Each cohort culminates in a community showcase event where youth share performances, artwork, and media projects.
CAC funding will support teaching artist fees, program coordination, materials, workshop implementation, and showcase events.
Organization Summary
Our program name BRITE stands for Building Resilience and Inclusion Through Engagement. BRITE is an arts-based youth development program that promotes mental health and social emotional learning through applied improvisation, social change theatre, and multidisciplinary creative programming.
We work in partnership with middle schools, high schools, colleges, after-school programs, and other youth-serving organizations to deliver workshops, performances, and creative projects that build skills, confidence, and connection. As part of this work, BRITE also provides prevention education related to drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, integrating these topics into engaging, youth-centered programming.
BRITE engages youth and young adults ages 12–25 in creative expression, advocacy, and action around issues they care about through applied improvisation, media production, spokesperson training, and leadership development opportunities.
