Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Project Commotion will provide a semester-long culturally-relevant, bilingual English/Spanish performing arts residency to 5 classrooms in underfunded schools in the Mission District of San Francisco.

Organization Summary

> After-school performing arts classes/summer camp – Our relationship-based performing arts programming combines creative movement (tumbling, music, dance, yoga and martial arts), sensory-rich experiences, and play as a means to foster healthy development, self-awareness and self-expression.

> Schools on the Move – Through our school partnership program we bring our signature relationship-based performing arts classes directly to students. Our partnership model also incorporates professional development training for teachers and parents.

> Community Move – Community Move offers interactive workshops for adults that discuss the science behind the brain-body connection and demonstrate how creative movement can support whole child development.

> Las Luciérnagas preschool – A play-based early childhood education program with an emphasis on creative movement and gross motor development. This Spanish-English bilingual program uses a multi-sensory approach to facilitate individualized learning.
