TuYo Theatre will use CAC Impact Projects funds to support a community-centered production of Real Women Have Curves in partnership with Sew Loka, a San Diego-based Chicana textile artist and designer. This project responds to community-identified needs around body acceptance, immigrant and working-class visibility, environmental sustainability, and access to culturally rooted arts experiences. CAC funds will support artist fees, community workshops, costume design using reclaimed materials, accessibility services, and free public performances in under-resourced San Diego communities. In addition to the production, TuYo and Sew Loka will offer intergenerational workshops in sewing, playwriting, and material reclamation that invite participants to reflect on labor, identity, self-worth, and collective care. Through theatre and textile arts, the project will celebrate cultural knowledge, foster dialogue, and expand equitable access to meaningful artistic participation.
