With support from the California Arts Council, BFF.fm: Best Frequencies Inc., a community radio station in the Mission District dedicated to highlighting underground music in San Francisco and the Bay Area. will be able to cover essential operating costs, allowing us to continue mentoring and showcasing Bay Area DJs and musicians, particularly BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists who are most impacted by displacement. This support ensures equitable access to radio airtime, creative opportunities, and community connection through local music, including strengthen initiatives that support the local underground music scene, such as Locals ONLY, our automated playlist featuring exclusively Bay Area bands, and our local music concert series, which will ensure that more local underground artists gain visibility and connect with audiences who value their work.
BFF.fm is:
a community radio station made up of of 150 volunteer DJs, who produce 115 weekly radio programs focusing on local and underground music, creating opportunities to learn radio and DJ skills
a podcast network that highlights independent and emerging podcast creators whose content uplifts Bay Area music, community, arts, and culture, and matches them with experienced mentors who guide them as they improve their skills
We create paid opportunities for local musicians in a no strings attached environment. Prior to the pandemic we’ve also promoted and curated concerts featuring local acts from marginalized communities around the Bay Area. In 2020 we moved our flagship concert series, the Besties Bash, online.
