Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) will partner with 7 local library branches to provide each location with a slate of 3 free after-school MudMobile visits, including culturally relevant, hands-on arts education programs paired with a literary storytime component led by the library. With a total of 21 MudMobile visits across the partner libraries, the program will culminate in a free Family Day and exhibition opportunity at AMOCA.

Selected library partners serve historically under-resourced communities and include Chino Branch Library, Covina Public Library, La Puente Library, Montclair Branch Library, Ovitt Family Community Library (Ontario), Pomona Public Library, and Upland Public Library.

Across the 22 programs, this AMOCA/Public Libraries partnership will serve approximately 1,150 youth ages 4-25.

Organization Summary

The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) champions the art, history, creation, and technology of ceramics through exhibitions, collections, outreach, and studio programming. The Museum is a cultural institution of national and international significance, a vanguard for recognizing the place of ceramics in the visual arts community, an organization dedicated to the promotion of equitable access to the arts, and an important and early participant in the economic revival of the Pomona Valley.

Housed in a 51,000-square-foot facility, AMOCA includes four exhibition galleries, a 12,000-square-foot ceramic studio, a resource library, Mudmobile, and a 13,000-object permanent collection. In 2026, we will open a new education hall, Kids Makerspace, accessible gender-neutral bathrooms, two new accessibility ramps, a curatorial preparation room, a Collection Study Room, and a Reading Lounge.

AMOCA’s primary activities celebrate ceramic art, artists, and movements through exhibitions, accessible age-appropriate tours, lectures, artist talks, curator presentations, family days, Artist-in-Residence program, studio classes and workshops, and education and outreach programs.
