Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, TeamWorks Art Mentoring Program will strengthen school communities through visual arts education and collaborative, site-specific murals and installations. Our mission is to expand access to culturally responsive arts experiences for historically marginalized and/or justice-system-engaged young people seeking an alternative path to graduation by supporting creative expression, skill development, and meaningful participation in community-based artmaking.

We reduce barriers to arts access by placing teaching artists at no-cost in under-resourced Title I schools. Through long-term residencies, public art exhibits, and representative staffing, we foster inclusive learning environments, strengthen student connectedness, and advance racial equity.

By centering youth voices, sense of belonging, and leadership opportunities, TeamWorks helps participants build confidence, contribute to a dynamic and diverse campus culture, and create art that reflects their identities, values, and communities.

Organization Summary

TeamWorks Art Mentoring Program’s curriculum provides a platform for system-engaged and prioritized youth to express themselves and experience culture-affirming co-creation of personal artworks and public murals. Our program offers arts and culture-affirming collaboration on campus during and after school hours, in community settings, and in our county-operated correctional facility.
