Project Description
Flockworks seeks support from the California Arts Council’s Impact Projects grant to expand inclusive, community-centered programming at the Cobalt Gallery in Fort Bragg, which Flockworks began managing in March 2025. The gallery is being transformed into a hub for creative engagement, cultural inclusion, and artistic visibility for underserved populations. Grant funds will support project costs including staffing, artist stipends, rent, workshop supplies, and utilities to carry out a year of exhibitions, hands-on workshops, and public events. Programming will prioritize Mendocino County’s rural population, where poverty rates exceed 20% and access to arts and enrichment opportunities is limited. Bilingual outreach, intergenerational classes, and a pay-what-you-can model ensure broad access regardless of income or background. By supporting local artists and fostering participation across ages and abilities, this project builds inclusion and cultural resilience along California’s North Coast.

Flockworks delivers arts based programs that promote creativity, community engagement, and equitable access to the arts in underserved rural areas.
In School Art Education: We partner with local school districts to provide hands on visual arts instruction during the school day, expanding arts access for all students.
Kudos and ASSETs After School Programs: Through after school programs across Fort Bragg Unified School District, Flockworks has regular contact with more than 1,700 students and families. Programs operate across elementary, middle, and high school campuses, providing academic support and enrichment in arts, STEM, music, and wellness. Flockworks manages state and federal grants for these programs, and this reach gives the Cobalt Creativity Center a direct line to families when promoting workshops and open studio hours.
Camp Flockworks: A full day summer program combining art, nature, and project based learning. Tuition is income based on a sliding scale tied to Federal Poverty Level guidelines, and roughly seventy five percent of campers receive tuition support through Flockworks fundraising. No family is turned away for inability to pay.
Cobalt Creativity Center: Our downtown Fort Bragg hub houses a community gallery and a hands on makerspace. The gallery hosts monthly exhibitions and a two month no cost residency for Noyo High School student curated shows. The makerspace offers free open studio hours with dedicated blocks for teens, seniors, and the public. Programming includes Free Art @ the Cobalt (twenty free bilingual sessions a year), pay what you can workshops, teen peer led sessions, and inclusive work with MATCH Disability Services.
Community Arts & Public Projects: Murals, community events, and bilingual programming tied to the Whale Festival, Kelp Fest, Fiesta Latina, and Día de Muertos.
Support for Artists & Educators: Professional development, partnership opportunities, and creative space for local artists and educators.
