Vivace provides choral music education through classes, workshops, and events to more than 675 K-12 students in Santa Clara County annually, and performs for more than 4000 people in the area each year through self-produced concerts and community events. Our programs balance age-appropriate vocal training, music literacy, and theory, while providing exposure to music from around the world. Singers benefit from learning how to work in a group, supporting one another, and become more compassionate as they explore their own creativity.

Vivace uses the Kodály [koh-DIE] method for music learning. Instruction begins with singing, movement, and games, advancing to more complex aspects of music, which allows singers to progress naturally from training to performing ensembles. Games used in our classrooms represent as many cultures and backgrounds as possible. Songs are chosen from classical, folk, and modern repertoire in multiple languages (e.g. Spanish, Thai, Hebrew, Czech, Japanese) and are carefully selected to be pedagogically appropriate and engaging.

Vivace creates space for all our students to find their voice and express themselves creatively in an affirming and safe environment. Singers are regularly provided with opportunities to collaborate with one another as well as additional students and fellow artists within the community. In addition to collaborative performances, Vivace frequently sings at community events. We believe building this foundation nurtures a holistic creative experience for our singers, which encourages inclusivity and compassion. Vivace is a non-auditioned choir, and we strive to find a space in our program for every student who desires to sing with us.
