With support from the California Arts Council, sjDANCEco will continue to nurture the creative spirit of professional and emerging dance artists and inspire audiences to discover dance. For the past 19 years we have achieved our mission through innovative performances, community festivals and outreach.
Our annual Fall Performance at the California Theatre with the San José Chamber Orchestra and 8+ professional Dance Artists which is sometimes augmented by community and Youth Dancers.
Our Youth Program “Dance INSPIRE”, which invites over 1100 4-5th grade students from Title 1 schools to experience our annual Fall Performance.
The Mentoring Program at Independence High School teaches classes to approximately 35 members of idance, the school’s performing ensemble, a new or sometime classic work is choreographed or staged for them and performed in school assemblies and in concert for an audience between 1500 – 1800 in April.
sjDANCEco Festival at Eastridge, an all day, two day event, that was initiated to celebrate National Dance Week. It has grown to include more than 60 Dance groups, an audience of 10,000 and celebrates the diversity of Dance in the Bay Area with performances from a wide variety of dance genres including Classical Ballet, Bollywood, K-pop, Cultural Dances and beyond. It embraces dancers from children to adults – from aspiring to professionals.
