O’Hanlon Center for the Arts invites you to submit work for our Chaos Exhibition 2024

 “Art is chaos taking shape,” Pablo Picasso
Step away from reason and logic. Step away from learned hard and fast art rules. Step into splashy, drippy, spontaneous, unpredictable work that looks chaotic but seems to have an internal logic and intelligence to it.
Remember Guernica, Pablo Picasso’s interpretation of chaos, which embodies all the agitation, panic, emotional and physical movement of chaos. View Jackson Pollock and Cornelia Parker and see how they portrayed chaos in their work. Chaos is all around us.
All artists are requested to think about chaos in their inner imaginings or in their feelings about the outer world they live. We are looking for how you, the artist, create a work that portrays chaos, and express it in the medium of your choice.
 

MEDIA: All Media

Open to all artists aged 16 and over
Submission limit: Three works per artist
Please do not submit works previously displayed in the O’Hanlon Gallery

ART PREPARATION

All work must be ready for display. Paint, glue, etc. must be dry!
Wall hung pieces must be securely wired.
Label all work with Artist’s name, Telephone, Medium, Size & Price, if for sale.
Bring resume and/or artist statement, if desired. (2 pages max.)

ENTRY PROCESS

On Entry Dates shown below, please hand-deliver (no digital submissions) up to three pieces of work to: O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, 616 Throckmorton Avenue, Mill Valley CA 94941
Fee is $40 or $30 for Artist Level OHCA  members for up to 3 works.
You can download and bring two copies of the submission PDF or fill out the form in person when you drop off. Be sure to print and bring 3 copies if you complete the form in advance. Payments will be accepted when artwork is delivered.

About the Juror:

Chester Arnold

My paintings are part of a visual dialogue running the length and breadth of human history. The search for excellence in this Art and Craft has led me to​ explore the natural world and the human events that inhabit it, constructing narratives that celebrate and question our presence in the world.

Although representational, I seek a way of painting that is richly traditional, yet radically and surprisingly new. I attempt to articulate more than the surfaces and dimensions of reality, summoning the wordless meanings and sensations that only visual art can.
