Executive Director

Description

Ópera Cultura, a Latinx opera company, is seeking an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as Executive Director. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will work closely with the Artistic Director in ensuring the artistic and financial success of the company. 

As the organizational leader of the company, the Executive Director is actively involved in the San Jose community and participates in various events.  The Executive Director also works closely with the board to implement Ópera Cultura’s long term strategic plan. The Executive Director may work the majority of their hours at home; however, s/he is required to attend meetings, community events, and productions. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • DEVELOPMENT –  Serve as lead fundraiser;  oversee fundraising campaigns, submit grants and final reports, individual donor cultivation, and identify new funding streams.
  • FINANCE –  Responsible for fiscal management, organizational and project budgets.
  • MARKETING – Develops marketing plans, which includes creating email blasts, social media posts, and press releases.
  • HIRING – In consultation with the Artistic Director and Production Manager, identifies and hires some production staff. Oversees contracts and offer letters. Works with payroll service to ensure proper processing of timesheets and payments to staff.
  • PRODUCTION – In collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Executive Director ensures all productions are artistically and financially successful. Oversees La Escuela Initiative programming. 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate has a passion for the arts and has a minimum of two years of senior management experience in the non profit sector. S/he also has a proven track record in fundraising and management. Familiarity with google docs and google sheets is required. Further, the candidate has a commitment to empowering communities of color through the arts. While not required, s/he speaks Spanish and has had prior experience working in the field of opera. . 

COMPENSATION AND START DATE:

Thirty hour salaried position.
Salary range: $45,000
Start date is August 1st, 2023

Founded by composer Héctor Armienta in 2008, Ópera Cultura is the only professional Latinx opera company in the country and is a professional member of Opera America. Our primary mission is to tell the stories of the Latinx community through opera, as well as create opportunities for the community to participate as creators, performers, and audience members. We are based in San Jose Ca. Ópera Cultura produces one main stage production in San Jose. CA, community events, and provides training to young people in the arts through La Escuela Initiative. When funding permits, the company also co-produces outside of California.
