The new Station was a joint project between the City and the County of Los Angeles (County). The Station is a Type 1 detention facility, with a 4,000-square-foot vehicle maintenance building and a heliport. The Station is located on City-owned property on Golden Valley Road, between Centre Pointe Parkway and Robert C. Lee Parkway. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is a law enforcement agency that serves Los Angeles County, California, an area totaling approximately 4,084 square miles with a population of almost 10 million people (2010 U.S. Census). LASD is the largest Sheriff’s Department in the world. The current service area of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has a population of approximately 293,000.
LASD is guided by these principle values:
• Integrity
• Accountability
• Service
• Ethics
The Station serves the City in a variety of different ways, some of which include the release of inmates or filing police reports. The Station also serves as a safe space for the community, for example, families may use the Station lobby as a meeting area when transferring custody of children.
The all-inclusive budget for this project is $190,623. Artist(s) are invited to submit portfolios of past work for consideration.
