Earth, Sky, and Everything in Between Contemporary Native American Art

Description

We are seeking artworks by Native American artists that highlight and express current and long-time challenges and issues through a contemporary art context. All media and materials will be considered including painting, prints, sculpture, photography, small scale installation, mixed media, video and digital media, performance art, and contemporary interpretations of traditional arts.

The exhibit will take place at Middletown Art Center (MAC) gallery in Lake County California, curated by contemporary Pomo cultural artist and basket weaver Corine Pearce. Earth, Sky, and Everything in Between will be on view at MAC from July 9 to October 10, 2022.  All works will also be accessible through a virtual 3D tour and in 2D images housed on MAC’s website and a downloadable pdf catalog.

The Earth, Sky, and Everything in Between exhibit is part of the Weaving Baskets, Weaving Bridges project collaboratively designed by regional Pomo culture bearers and MAC’s arts and cultural program team. The project is a forum to raise awareness of and honor local Indigenous culture and history as part of a continuum of cross-cultural relationship building and working together through creative action towards healing.

Weaving Baskets, Weaving Bridges is funded in part by the California Arts Council, and by Lake County Tribal Nations.
