ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/MARIN CENTER: The Department of Cultural Services programs and operates the Marin Center, a 20-acre campus of indoor and outdoor venues that hosts hundreds of events each year. As the major performing arts center, events center, and fairgrounds in Marin County, Marin Center serves the community by hosting a range of performances by local arts groups and national touring acts, art and music festivals, trade shows, corporate banquets, visual art exhibitions, and the 5-day Marin County Fair, attended by more than 100,000 people each year. Bringing art, music, dance, and performance of all kinds to audiences from around the Bay, attendees also enjoy visiting the beautiful Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium inspired by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

 

There is one (1) part-time (0.50 FTE) position in the Department of Cultural Services. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

 

Under the direction of the Administrative Services Associate, the Accounting Assistant provides support in a myriad of fiscal areas, including accounting, treasury, revenue billing and collection, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash handling, payroll, statistical and other financial, fiscal and/or budgetary office support. This position also processes, records, reviews, and reconciles a variety of financial and payroll related transactions and prepares forms and documentation necessary to support the activities of the Department. The general duties and minimum requirements of this position are described in the class specification.  

 

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, flexible, accurate and able to work both independently and with a professional team. The ideal candidate is an excellent written and verbal communicator and has at least one year of direct experience in customer service with the ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and other departmental personnel. Additionally, the ideal candidate has the ability to clearly articulate and document accounting procedures and has at least one year of experience performing accounting functions in a governmental, non-profit, or similarly regulated environment in the private sector. The ideal candidate has experience with cash handling, and working with financial accounting, human capital management and statistical reporting systems.

Education or professional training that is directly related to the knowledge and skills requirements may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement.
