Based in Downtown LA’s historic Little Tokyo, JANM’s award-winning Frank H. Watase Media Arts Center (MAC) is committed to promoting thoughtful exploration, understanding and appreciation of America’s pluralistic society through an innovative program of media documentation and preservation, production and presentation.
The Media Arts Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development and production of media products for MAC. Position is temporary with funding through June 30, 2024
The Media Arts Assistant will assist and support MAC staff at all stages of production, including camera work, editing, coordinating film production, archive management, researching new stories, collecting material for grant proposals and potential media projects. Assists in web-related video production. Prepares clips and uploads content to YouTube, DiscoverNikkei.org, and other social media platforms. Works with other JANM departments to fulfill their web video content needs. Livestreams public programs.
Bachelor’s degree required. Must have at least 3 years film/video experience. Willingness to learn and apply new skills. Flexible hours are a must; some weekend and occasional weeknight hours required. Able to maintain positive relations with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Knowledge of digital cameras (Sony FS7), camera supports, lighting, audio recording, video file formats and codecs. Experience with Apple computers, both Apple and Adobe software (Final Cut Pro, Premier Effects, Motion, Photoshop, etc).
