The Japanese American National Museum (JANM.org) is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums and its permanent collections has over 150,000 objects that chronicle the Japanese American experience in its entirety from early immigration to the present. JANM is a Smithsonian affiliate and AAM accredited.
In support of research and development for a new core exhibition, the National Parks Service Japanese American Confinement Sites-funded collections digitization grant, and ongoing work to document the permanent collection, JANM Collections Management & Access department (CMA) seeks a digitization specialist to advance digitization and make the digital assets and accompanying metadata available in TMS Collections as well as through eMuseum, JANM’s web-publishing platform. Position is temporary with funding through 6/30/2024.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a museum or library, preferably working with an artifact or archival collection. High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to maintain positive relations with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Internet savvy, MS Office, Google Calendar, Gmail, TMS, Adobe Photoshop preferred.
