Art Room Gallery is proud to announce their 3rd “Portrait” Online Art Competition for the month of April. This is an international competition and we invite artists and photographers from around the world to submit their best artworks related to the Portrait theme. A portrait may be a single person, a group, or self-portrait. A variety of interpretations of the Portrait theme can be submitted. All visual art mediums are acceptable (painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage or installation art) except sound and video art. All winning artists will receive a digital award certificate. First, second and third place will be largely displayed with an article about the artist and their work. Winning artwork (First place) will be on the poster of the show. $15 for 2 images of artwork. Deadline: April 15, 2021.

Collections Assistant
An Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, the Japanese American National Museum (JANM.org) is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums. JANM’s permanent collections has over 150,000 objects that chronicle the Japanese American experience in its entirety from early immigration to the present.
The Collections Assistant will advance collections-related work on the new core exhibition as well as assist with other collections-related projects, including, but not limited to: artifact donation offers, research requests, cataloging and rehousing artifacts, collections care, exhibition installations and deinstallations, and loans. Position is temporary with funding through 6/30/2024.
For the new core exhibition: compile and track information on artifacts under consideration for the new core exhibition and share with lead curator and exhibition development team; maintain the artifact checklist for the exhibition and produce object reports as requested by the lead curator and exhibition development team; coordinate digitization of artifacts, artworks, and archival materials under consideration for the new core exhibition.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a museum or library, preferably working with an artifact or archival collection. Understanding of museum registrarial processes and procedures is a plus. Knowledge of collections management databases, particularly TMS is preferred.
High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to maintain positive relations with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Internet savvy, MS Office, Google Calendar, Gmail, TMS preferred. Adobe Photoshop skills are ideal.

Watase Media Arts Center (MAC) is committed to promoting thoughtful exploration, understanding and appreciation of America’s pluralistic society through an innovative program of media documentation and preservation, production and presentation.
The Media Arts Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development and production of media products for MAC. Position is temporary with funding through June 30, 2024
The Media Arts Assistant will assist and support MAC staff at all stages of production, including camera work, editing, coordinating film production, archive management, researching new stories, collecting material for grant proposals and potential media projects. Assists in web-related video production. Prepares clips and uploads content to YouTube, DiscoverNikkei.org, and other social media platforms. Works with other JANM departments to fulfill their web video content needs. Livestreams public programs.
Bachelor’s degree required. Must have at least 3 years film/video experience. Willingness to learn and apply new skills. Flexible hours are a must; some weekend and occasional weeknight hours required. Able to maintain positive relations with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Knowledge of digital cameras (Sony FS7), camera supports, lighting, audio recording, video file formats and codecs. Experience with Apple computers, both Apple and Adobe software (Final Cut Pro, Premier Effects, Motion, Photoshop, etc).

Facilities Administrative Assistant

JANM is based in Downtown LA’s historic Little Tokyo. Its campus includes the Gyo Obata designed Pavilion, the former Nishi Hongwanji Temple built in 1925, and an expansive public plaza. In addition to gallery, office, event, and meeting spaces, JANM has the 200 seat Tateuchi Democracy Forum theatre.
The Facilities Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the Facilities Department that oversees maintenance, security, information technology, and facility rentals. Duties include phone calls, email, invoices/billing, vendor files, correspondence, supply orders, payment request, keycard, parking permit, building key logs and assisting the Facilities/Security Director with updating maintenance schedules and coordination of museum equipment repairs. On occasion provide lunch break for Visitor Services Associates at admission desk. This position includes occasional weekend, early morning, or evening hours and requires some flexibility on scheduling based upon facilities schedule.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, humanities or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an administrative assistant or receptionist and handling payments in a museum or office setting. At least 1 year of event planning or marketing and customer service experience is preferred. Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills with strong proofreading skills and ability to prepare invoices for clients. Professional phone manner is essential. Demonstrate commitment and flexibility at all times in order to ensure high quality service. Familiarity with Little Tokyo Community desired and knowledge of Japanese American history and culture a plus.
