Progressing Issues of Social Importance Through the Work of Indigenous Artists: A Social Impact Evaluation of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation’s Pilot Community Inspiration Program
In 2014, the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) launched a new initiative, the Community Inspiration Program (CIP), which is rooted in the understanding that arts and cultures projects have an important role to play in motivating community engagement and supporting social change.
This report considers the social impacts of the 2014 CIP projects – what effects did they have on communities and on the issues, conversations, and connections that are critical in those communities? Its secondary purpose is to provide the NACF with ideas for how to improve its grant making in support of arts for community change.

Creative Freelancers
The Creative Industries Federation surveyed around 700 creative freelancers and spoke to 50 businesses, alongside legal specialists, financial advisors and trade bodies, seeking recommendations to improve the working lives of the creative freelancer workforce. This report looks at what government can do to support the creative freelance economy.
Some of the recommendations in this report cover
policies where freelancers were not considered when
that policy was designed, such as higher education
policy or the need for freelance visas. Other concerns
common across all sub-sectors of the creative industries
included accessing legal advice, financial support and
workspace.
ARTS DEPLOYED: An Action Guide for Community Arts & Military Programming
A collaboration between AFTA’s National Initiative for Arts & Health and the Military (NIAHM) and the Local Arts Advancement (LAA) department, Arts Deployed helps local arts organizations and artists understand their unique roles in serving their military and Veteran communities; details the expansive benefits the arts have on the health and well-being of these communities; and lays the groundwork—step-by-step, from establishing fruitful partnerships with the military and Veteran sector, through funding and promotion—for arts organizations and artists to build their own creative arts initiative for their local military and/or Veteran communities.

“Creating Change through Arts, Culture, and Equitable Development: A Policy and Practice Primer” highlights both promising and proven practices that demonstrate equity-focused arts and culture policies, strategies, and tools. The report describes the role of arts and culture across the nine sectors. Within each policy chart there are goals, policies, and implementation strategies that can help achieve communities of opportunity.
