Hesperian Triangle
San Leandro, California
Deadline: July 15th 2024
Twelve Month Out-of-Doors Display
Local Artists Berkeley and the City of San Leandro are pleased to announce a Call for Art; we are seeking sculptural artwork to be placed in San Leandro at 14th St and 150th St at the Hesperian Triangle. The location is a vacant triangular lot at the intersection of three roads, with a fully visible open space in a highly trafficked area.
All submitted artwork will be processed through a jury panel of arts professionals.
Artists may apply in any medium that can endure the outdoors in a public setting for twelve months. All object based sculptures must be securely mounted to the ground or plinth at the designated site, and all work must be made safe for children and pedestrian traffic. We are looking for mid-range to large scale artwork.
Stipend of $9,000 will be offered to the selected artist for the loan of their artwork. Although there are no geographic restrictions for applicants, artists are responsible for transportation outside of California’s Bay Area. LAB will assist with installation, and deaccession of their work, as well as returning the site to its original condition. Each sculpture will be identified with a nameplate provided by LAB.
LAB will monitor the condition of the sculpture on a weekly basis; however the artist is responsible for repairs or maintenance of their work. Assistance from participating artists is expected.
Local Artists Berkeley is a California 501(c)3 non-profit organization which seeks to provide public access to artwork through out-of-doors exhibition and display for educational, informational, and cultural purposes. LAB seeks to encourage the artistic and cultural interests of the community by providing a showcase for art created by local and greater Bay Area artists.

Exhibition Overview: Caminos Por Andar will explore Latinx and Chicanofuturism in contemporary art through the lens of speculative fiction, magical realism, and anti-colonial traditions. Artists featured in this exhibition will engage with a liberated heritage, to envision joyful and equitable futures through a variety of artistic mediums. Given the fluidity of human identity and blurred lines between culture and heritage, artists are free to create from a place of diasporic understanding, drawing on their own ancestry and traditions to center Latinx and Cincano/a/x experiences in imagined and alternate realities.
