Artists from around the world are invited to submit artwork for Pieces For Peace. 

 

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is partnering with the Cathedral City Peace Initiative to host Pieces For Peace, observing the United Nations International Day of Peace on September 21, 2023. The U.N. General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. 

 

ELIGIBILITY

This call is open to all artists and students and encourages artists to consider one’s role or piece in generating peace. Media and materials considered include painting, prints, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. Recycled and repurposed materials are enthusiastically encouraged.

Studio System Experimental Residency

Torrance Art Museum is proud to present its Studio System Experimental Residency project. The project, ongoing since 2015, emerges from TAM’s desire to bridge the gap between artistic practice and the public. Studio System seeks to bring the dynamism of the artist’s studio into the museum space, encouraging audiences to see works in process. Visitors are encouraged to directly interact with the artists and discuss inspirations, sources, thoughts, feelings, content and context, as well as chart the progression of the works over the 20+ day project with aims toward a greater public appreciation of art, artists and public art institutions.

The 8 person cohort of artists will be curated from open-call submissions. The selected group will utilize the Main Gallery as their studio for the period of the program.

The 2024 Studio System will run Tuesday June 4th to Saturday June 29th, when the final exhibition reception will be held, 6-9pm.

Cycladic Arts Program / Sponsored Artist-in-Residency Program in Greece

Contemporary artists of any discipline are invited to apply:

The Cycladic Arts Program is partnership between Torrance Art Museum and Cycladic Arts in Alyki, Paros, Greece, awarding a Southern California based artist this cross-cultural Artist Residency opportunity.

•           The program will host one artist per year for a twenty-five day residency at Cycladic Arts in Alyki, Paros, Greece

•           directly followed by the body of work being displayed on the programs webpage for an online exhibit

•           There will be an in person exhibit every three years at Torrance Art Museum, that will act as a curated retrospective of the three artists that were selected during that period and the work they produced during their residencies.

The Residency will be twenty five days long during September, 2023.

Contemplating Boundaries

LAUNCH LA, in partnership with The Korean Cultural Center, invites all Southern California visual artists to submit work for a juried exhibition and competition at The Korean Cultural Center, 5505 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, July 27 to August 18, 2023. Enter by midnight, July 6.

Boundaries exist in all cultures-often as social constructs serving to regulate our actions, norms, taboos, and space. They may be codified laws, common societal traditions, or even self-imposed rules.

“Contemplating Boundaries” brings together artists from across Southern California whose practices contemplate and reflect barriers, labels and limits- whatever their origin or purpose. These artists and their works- define our times, providing an authentic lens to view contemporary culture.

OPEN CALL for SoCal Artists/Filmmakers: Summer 2023 Video & Short Film Showcase

The Residency Project is seeking submissions of short film/video projects by Southern California-based artists/filmmakers for a screening event in Pasadena on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Selected artists will be paid $100 each for their participation in the screening as recommended by Working Artists in the Greater Economy (W.A.G.E.) and an additional $50 for their in-person attendance of the screening event.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Artist/Filmmaker must be 18+ years old and based in Southern California
  • This call is open to narrative, non-narrative, experimental, documentary-style, animation, experimental animation projects completed within the past 5 years
  • Project’s total runtime cannot exceed 30 minutes
  • The work should already exist in a digital format playable in a cue-based, multimedia playback software (.mp4 and .mov preferred).
  • Artist/Filmmaker must be able to commit to attending the in-person screening event on the evening of  8/19/2023, where they will give a brief introduction of their featured work
  • Artist/Filmmaker must be open to screening their work in a non-traditional/ad hoc/salon-style environment. TRP is an artist residency and project space based in an intimate home environment in a residential neighborhood. Depending on the weather, curatorial vision, and expected audience size, the screening may take place inside the residency house or outside in the backyard/garden.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Each work sample or trailer should be no more than 3 minutes long. Samples will need to be submitted as links to Vimeo, YouTube, etc.
  • Full work cannot exceed a total runtime of 30 minutes. Finalists will be asked to submit the full film/video for review.
  • Submission fee: $5 per submission
  • Limit of 5 submissions per artist/filmmaker
  • Applicant will need to include title, date, and contextual description for each submission + your CV and link to your artist website/IMDB

Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station

The Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Glendale is requesting proposals from creative artists to temporarily display a unique installation in the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station (ASMPGS). The City’s Community Services & Parks Department (CSP) owns the ASMPGS, a historic 1936 Streamline Modern Gas Station building listed on the Glendale Register of Historic Resources. Art is displayed on a rotational basis in the ASMPGS and submissions are ongoing.

This Call For Submissions is for art installations at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station.

  • Artists whose work is chosen for installation at the ASMPGS will receive a stipend of $1,000 in addition to a production budget of up to $1,500 for a total maximum stipend of $2,500.

The Gas Station is located at the Adams Square Mini Park, 1020 East Palmer Avenue, Glendale CA 91205. The Gas Station is 12’x12’x12′ cube, with acrylic windows. There are two doors, two electrical outlets and a timer. Items can be hung from the ceiling.

Art installations at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station are sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission and the Community Services & Parks Department.
