Artist in Residence Program 2023: Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods (Stewards) is a non-profit organization that partners with the Russian River Sector of California State Parks to promote, restore and protect the natural and cultural resources in our parks. The Pond Farm Artist in Residence Program offers artists a unique place to work at stay above Armstrong Redwoods in Guerneville, California. In 2023, we will accept an artist for each month from May through October 2023. Applications are now open and the application window closes on January 31st, 2023. We welcome artists of all types, across the disciplinary and interdisciplinary spectrum and people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. The Museum of Northern California Art is seeking original artwork featuring bicycles, as a primary or secondary subject matter. All media, including art made from bicycles. This juried exhibition will coincide with Chico’s Wildflower Century Bicycle Ride and monca’s exhibit of Northern California images by Wikipedia photographer Fritz Schulenburg. The museum’s exhibition committee will make the final selections for the exhibition.
The exhibit will be held at the Museum of Northern California Art (monca) at 900 Esplanade in Chico.

As the major performing arts, events center, and fairgrounds in Marin County, Marin Center serves the community by bringing art, music, dance, and performance of all kinds to audiences around the Bay. Under general supervision, the Event Operations Coordinator (Front of House Manager) manages front of house operations necessary to ensure excellence in customer service, safety and comfort for all individuals who attend performances and events at the Marin Center; recruits, assigns, coordinates and provides lead direction to Assistant House Managers, Performance Attendants, Utility Workers and volunteer usher staff; oversees on-site operations of producers, exhibitors, concessionaires, security and other vendors; and performs related duties as required.
The Event Operations Coordinator is assigned to the Department of Cultural Services. The incumbent functions independently within clearly established policies and procedures as the assigned departmental representative at events to ensure operational effectiveness and to respond to emergency situations. Unusual problems or policy matters are referred to higher levels of management.
Incumbent is required to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, overtime and on-call as dictated by events schedule.
The Highly Qualified Candidate: Highly qualified candidates will bring a breadth of experience as a house manager and/or event coordinator in a theatre, auditorium, fairground or other public facility, and this experience will include directly managing front of house operations, overseeing safety training and protocols, developing and executing customer service protocols and procedures, and recruiting, coordinating, and managing paid and volunteer front of house staff. Strongly desired skills include strong organizational skills, the ability to plan ahead, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to deal with emergency situations, and demonstrable leadership.
The minimum qualifications are: One year of house management or event coordination experience in an auditorium, theater, fairground or similar public facility.

Artwork will be juried for entry digitally or by photo at no cost to the artist. As always, we look forward to the creative ways our members choose to address the theme of the show.
Artwork can be any media including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, glasswork, ceramics, drawing, and assemblage. Submitting multimedia pieces is also encouraged, including photography, digital collage, short films (5-10 min.), and soundscapes.
Artists will be notified on an ongoing basis if their art has been selected for this show. If your work is chosen to be part of the show, you will be sent a contract and inventory list: If you are a Sun Gallery member, the show fee will be reduced for this special environmental show to $65 (for up to 4 pieces) The fee for non-members is $85, and includes all of the above, and membership for the Calendar year 2023.
The fee includes a set of postcard invitations and a hanging fee for up to 4 pieces not to exceed 12 sq. feet in wall area. You can pick up the invitations at drop-off, or if you want them mailed to you, please add another $5.00.
Additional work can be submitted for a fee of $10 per piece.
**Artists chosen for this show will automatically be eligible to have up to 2 of their pieces displayed at the O’Lague Galleria at Hayward City Hall in a follow-up show on climate change. There is no additional fee for the O’Lague Show and it will be offered at no charge should you choose to participate. It is not required that you show in the O’Lague Galleria, but if you choose to be in that exhibit also it will be required that you are able to personally bring and pick up your work to and from the Galleria at the upcoming announced dates and times.**

Please make checks payable to Sun Gallery. Artists must identify their work with a label attached to the FRONT of their art with: your name, the title of the art piece, medium, and price. This info will be used for the wall labels. All wall-mounted work must be wired and ready to hang, matted and framed, or edges gallery wrapped and finished.
We reserve the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited, or was misrepresented in submission. You will need to bring or mail a completed inventory sheet with the same info as above, and a signed contract with your fees. A one-page artist statement or bio will be displayed in a show binder if you supply us with one. Sun Gallery does not provide art insurance on your work. The Gallery will take every precaution to ensure the safety of your pieces, however, we cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to your work while on the gallery premises. Each artist, if they wish to have it, needs to provide their own insurance. Sun Gallery will keep a 30% commission on any sale of artwork. No artwork will be removed from the exhibition during the show.
College and High School Entries: The Sun Gallery welcomes entries from both College and High School students. The entry fee will be waived but only one entry per student, please.
The participating artists will be providing finger foods or beverages for the event.

Teaching Artists – Movement, Circus, and Theater

We are seeking leading anchor teaching artists and specialty guest artists for select school sites in Oakland and West Contra Costa County for one and two semester programs that take place 1-2 afternoons each week. PCT teaching artists guide youth participants through fostering supportive relationships, building new skills, and creating original circus and theatre performances. As a social circus program, our Teaching Artists prioritize the daily relational and creative process over “product” while holding high expectations of our students and of ourselves. Skills: Acrobatics, juggling, creative movement, dance, rola-bola / rolling globe, clowning/character improvisation, theater creation, and stilt walking (will train an experienced coach in PCT’s stilt curriculum).
Qualifications: Strong skills in one’s discipline and demonstrated experience leading short and/or long term sessions for children ages 8 – 16 years old.
Preferences: Demonstrated performing experience. Ability to facilitate youth-led circus act creation. Experience working and /or teaching in multicultural settings. Specialty artists rotate throughout our afterschool and school day programs to teach students fundamental skills, establish structures for practice with the resident artist/leading teacher, and, at times, assist with act creation. Instruction at sites to take place in 2-3 week blocks (1 – 5 sessions) with possible follow up visits to support act building and show production.
Call for Art – For the Love of Birds
The Museum of Northern California Art is seeking original artwork whose subject is birds, real or imaginary, wild or not so wild for a juried exhibition to take place during Chico’s 2023 Snow Goose Festival, which celebrates the glorious migration of snow geese on the Pacific Flyway. Along with traditional art forms, we are looking for work that somehow demonstrates a unique use of materials, subject matter and approach. All media.
The exhibit will be held at the Museum of Northern California Art (monca) 900 Esplanade in Chico.
To apply: Submit your art (up to 3 distinct works) with this form. Application fee of $35 for non-monca members and $25 for monca members is due by December 15, 2022 by 5 pm. If you wish to submit more than 3 works, please fill out the form a second time for an additional fee of $10 for each piece. The museum’s exhibition committee will make the final choice of artworks. Artists will be notified of the decision on or before December 22, 2022.
