Summary
The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) is seeking a highly motivated and accessible Level 1 IT Tech to support the school’s information technology department. Reporting to the Chief information officer, this position installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical assistance and training to system users. This position is a great opportunity for someone that wants to be part of a diverse academic community of 500 students, 80+ faculty and 70 staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs hardware and software
  • Maintains Computer labs
  • Maintains network Printers
  • Troubleshoots computer issues
  • Responds to help desk requests for assistance on a variety of software/hardware problems
  • Instructs users/students in use of equipment, software, and manuals
  • Tracks software licenses
  • Performs repairs on miscellaneous computer hardware
  • Assists in the installation, deployment, and rollout of new hardware/software applications
  • Assists network administrator with various duties
  • Other duties as assigned by the CIO

Qualifications

Grants Manager

An Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums. The Grants Manager will manage efforts to secure funding from private and corporate foundations and government sources to support the JANMs revenue goals, working closely with program and fundraising staff.

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A working knowledge of grantsmanship and grant management with at least 3 years of previous experience.  Additional experience in development operations is beneficial. Previous experience working in a non-profit or museum beneficial. Experience in professional or technical writing, especially in writing for fund raising. Strong proofreading skills.  Professional phone manner is essential.  Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, be a self-starter and self-sufficient.  Demonstrate commitment and flexibility at all times in order to ensure high quality customer service to coworkers and external constituents; patience and ability to adjust and provide appropriate action when unanticipated need arises. Director, National Center for the Preservation of Democracy

The Opportunity

The Japanese American National Museum is revitalizing its National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (NCPD) and is seeking an experienced dynamic leader to serve as its new Director to realize its full potential as a conduit that promotes democracy in the 21st century. A purpose-driven leader, the Director of the NCPD will be responsible for the vision, strategy development, and implementation of NCPD’s programs advancing its goals and purpose of ensuring equity and justice. The Director will bring new perspectives and energy to the work of NCPD to activate and engage audiences around challenging issues confronting democracy to increase civic engagement. The purpose of the NCPD is to activate all people toward reimagining democracy today so that it is equitable for all. The programs will inform and enable participants to deeply consider issues and motivate them to take action fostering change.

The ideal candidate brings substantive program and leadership experience in a comparable role, deep knowledge of social justice, racial equity, the Asian American experience, and the intersectional nature of democracy, with knowledge and passion gained through lived experience. The Director will possess a deep passion for societal change and a strong belief in civic dialogue and the democratic process as the basis for NCPD programming.

The Director will serve as the NCPD team lead reporting to the JANM President & CEO, working closely with the JANM team to advance organizational priorities. The Director will grow and lead a team of three dedicated NCPD staff, and will cultivate a team-centric culture and cohesive, collaborative, and supportive workplace environment. The Director will invest in recruiting, developing, and retaining a high-quality workforce.

About National Center for the Preservation of Democracy

The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (NCPD), which opened in 2005, convenes and educates people of all ages about democracy to transform attitudes, influence culture, and promote civic engagement.

Located at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo community, NCPD is a place for dialogue about race and social justice where visitors examine contemporary and historical frameworks, including the Asian American experience. The Center explores the rights, freedoms, and enduring fragility of democracy, helping to build bridges and find common ground between people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.

In 2021, the Center embarked on a process to revitalize its programs while retaining its educational focus and deep connection to the Japanese American community. 

Key Responsibilities

Vision and Strategy–Provide strategic leadership, vision, and oversight of NCPD program activities.

Management–Lead program development, working cross functionally with JANM’s Marketing and Communications, Fund Development, and Public Programs.

Programs–Develop new NCPD programs that elevate themes exploring issues of Democracy to engage the public, including a speaker series, arts and culture programming, artists-in-residence and democracy fellowships, and internship programs for historians and democracy scholars.

Outreach & Engagement–Create NCPD partnerships with organizations, thought leaders, and community members.

Fundraising–In coordination with JANM fund development staff, identify, and secure resources and support for NCPD and its programs.

Team Leadership–Manage a program associate, volunteers, and interns, and develop a plan to grow the NCPD staff to three, including program manager and program coordinator.

Operations–Manage and lead NCPD operations including scheduling, production, events, and operations.

Development Associate

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Artist Development Manager

The Job

The Artist Development Manager executes Music Forward’s emerging artist programming, guiding aspiring artists to discover Music Forward and navigate programs and performance opportunities which range from open mics, coaching sessions and Spotlight performances to unique partnership projects, brand engagement experiences, and paid performances.

The Manager is project lead for all artist pathway programs. As lead, the Manager drives development of program materials, workshop content, and helps develop and implement a strategy that identifies, recruits and retains participants nationwide. Ensuring equity, the Manager drives an artist grants process, and works with local staff and experts to help artists bring their craft to the next level.

The Manager supports securing and management of local performances for programs and alumni and provides on the ground support for key alumni opportunities. This position reports to the Director of Education. The Manager is expected to supervise and coach Artist Development Interns, as well as manage related contractors.

The Details
Lead programs and processes for artist development:

o   Identify programs, mentorship and performance opportunities that supports the individual growth of emerging artists with varying levels of knowledge and skills in performance and music business acumen

o   In collaboration with the Director of Education, develop outcomes driven curriculum for young emerging artists; identify relevant artist development workshop topics, outcomes, and curriculum and assessment strategies

o   Recruit young artists and build partnerships from around the country to ensure the growth of a diverse group of artists, representing a variety of musical genres

o   Develop written processes and internal trainings to support efficiency and efficacy of programs

o   Serve as lead for the overall selection, planning and implementation of All Access Fest career fair artist engagement path

o   Manage awards, gear, and brand opportunities to support artist development in collaboration with executive team

·       Manage artist and alumni engagement opportunities: Develop and implement systems and processes for Music Forward’s alumni that identify levels of proficiency and associated next step opportunities including, but not limited to; mentorship and gig opportunities. Provide input and content for related promotional and engagement strategies. Work closely with Operations, Marketing, and Strategic Partnership departments to integrate into organizational processes.

·       Cultivate and coordinate industry relations: The Manager works with the Director of Strategic Partnerships to cultivate, train, place, and steward industry professionals who participate in year-round panels, workshops, and special events. Serve as liaison for organizational partnerships when appropriate.

·       Be an active member of our team: take initiative in support of our organizational strategies by brainstorming, researching and proposing strategic individual and corporate targets; participate in required staff calls and meetings; support additional duties as assigned. Stay informed and on top of music industry news, new technology and trends.

What you bring
·       5+ years of experience working in the music industry

·       Artist development experience required

·       Project management experience that includes working with youth and skilled volunteers from a variety of backgrounds

Charitable Partnerships Manager

The Job

The Charitable Partnerships Manager (CPM) is responsible for working closely across the organization to help formulate and drive a comprehensive development strategy that supports Music Forward’s mission and long-term sustainability. The CPM manages the daily activities of the fund development department, shapes internal processes and procedures that are rooted in fundraising best practices and promotes organizational scalability in accordance with Music Forward’s strategic goals.

In conjunction with the Executive Director, the CPM executes on targeted strategies to raise revenue from corporations, foundations, events, major donors, and other individuals by engaging and expanding Music Forward’s supporters, thinking creatively to enhance current fundraising strategies at local and national levels, and working to identify and prioritize new opportunities based on careful assessment of ROI. The CPM serves in a front-facing capacity and represents the organization to key constituent groups specifically with our individual donor base.

This position is expected to supervise, coach, and develop a Charitable Partnerships Coordinator and Charitable Partnerships interns, as well as manage related contractors including a grant writer. The position is based in Los Angeles, CA, and reports into the Executive Director.

The Details
·       Support annual development plan: Help to establish benchmarks and provide timely updates on successes, challenges, and opportunities as they relate to the annual budget and departmental goals; make recommendations for changes, improvements, and increased outcomes; incorporate and activate Music Forward’s Diversity Equity Inclusion Commitment, Practice and Plan into development; prepare reports for Executive Team and Board of Directors as requested.

·       Manage individual giving strategy: Supervise and support the Charitable Partnerships Coordinator in designing and implementing a comprehensive donor cultivation and stewardship plan inclusive of direct mail appeals, engagement opportunities, and other outreach and communication strategies; assist with identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors; support the success and expansion of the organization’s first membership program, the Music Forward Alliance; work with the Charitable Partnerships Coordinator to increase annual revenues sourced through digital and in-person auctions.

·       Drive brainstorming, research, and identification of institutional giving opportunities that best match organizational goals and have highest ROI potential: Working collaboratively across the organization, help steward relationships with internal Live Nation employees and external corporate partners for campaigns; manage process of grants fundraising efforts, and sustain and grow Music Forward’s portfolio of foundation funders commensurate with that assessment; research, identify, and target key brands that align with Music Forward’s mission and messaging for sponsorship, and identify opportunities to increase brand visibility through marketing channels.

·       Manage and maintain CRM system: With support from the Director of Operations, create and update reports and dashboards that support the needs of fundraising campaigns and strategies. Support staff and interns on system and manage CRM data projects and website integration. Maintain the smooth flow of data from external portals and strategic and communications strategies, ultimately supporting moves management that deepens engagement of constituents.

·       Maximize special event revenue: Manage planning, production, promotion, and other event-related activities to cultivate and steward Music Forward constituents; help Music Forward to expand the number of events hosted across national markets, including third-party events; work closely with the Director of Operations to analyze costs to ensure adequate profit margins for all events.

·       Serve as an active member of our team: Participate in and lead brainstorming, research, and creative ideation; join required staff calls and meetings; support additional duties as assigned or requested.
