The team is currently searching for a Museum, Arts & Culture Manager to assist with leading the Museum’s mission of enhancing knowledge and understanding of our community through dynamic and vibrant experiences.
The Museum, Arts & Culture Manager, under administrative direction of the Museum, Arts & Culture Director, is responsible for the management and daily administration of the Museum Department and supervising staff and activities within a section of the Department. Monitors and evaluates the efficiency of programs and service delivery methods and provides professional and technical staff assistance to the Museum, Arts & Culture Director. The successful candidate will embody the Department’s mission and vision, as well as the qualities of a “Five Tool Player” – Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant – and the values of the City’s Approach to Public Service – Commitment to the Community, Excellence through Teamwork, and Doing the Right Thing the Right Way. Examples of Essential Functions
The essential functions typically performed by the Museum, Arts and Culture Manager include the following:
Manages, develops, and implements goals, objectives, policies, priorities, and the strategic plan for assigned area of responsibility; evaluates, recommends, and implements new policies, projects, and marketing strategies.
Participates and leads the implementation of City Council goals and objectives.
Prepares and presents a variety of reports to and for City Council, Museum Board of Trustees, Arts & Culture Working Group and internal stakeholders. The position may facilitate and work with appointed board or commission in relation to programs.
Collaborates with the City Council, City Administration, and various committees to develop and build the City’s regional identity by promoting agency programs, services, activities, and events.
Facilitates the Arts & Culture working committee; develops effective public participation strategies and activities that result in effective working relationships and expanded partnerships among the committee and community members to increase engagement and accessibility to arts and cultural programming.
Collaborates with other City department’s internal stakeholders on all public art projects.
Seeks grants and other funding opportunities for projects that fit within the Department’s strategic plan; may direct the implementation, coordination, development, and operation of federal, state, or local grant programs or projects.
Evaluates proposed new programs, services, and policies; develops and prepares requests for proposals involving vendors and contractors.
May supervise and direct the activities of staff including employee selection, work assignment, performance evaluation, employee development, disciplinary action, and complaint resolution.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays informed of developments and current practice in the fields of arts and culture.
Participates in the administration of the Department’s budget; ensures resources are allocated properly and expenditures are monitored for budgetary compliance.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations, and policies, procedures that govern program operations.
Develops and implements strategies for increasing community engagement in the arts that reach a diverse range of stakeholders.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Arts Administration, or a closely related field.
Experience
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in museums, arts or arts administration.
License
A valid California Class ‘C’ driver’s license and an acceptable driving record at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Desirable
Master’s Degree in Arts Administration or a closely related field.
Prior experience in administration of a municipal public art fee program.
