Based in a lively urban neighborhood in Pasadena, California, The Residency Project @ 880 provides space for artists-in-residence to live and work in an intimate, shared-living environment with access to the thriving arts scenes, diverse cultural landscape, and natural resources of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. TRP @ 880 asks specifically how the archetypal home can serve as both a physical and conceptual framework for contemporary art practice. Residents are not required to end their residency with a finished “product.” Rather, TRP encourages artists to research, rest, explore, experiment, and play with new concepts and modes of making. 

Artist Stipend: $300

  • Artists at any stage of their career and from any disciplinary background for whom our Residency Philosophy resonates!
  • Individual artists and partnered applicants are welcome to apply. “Partnered applicants” refers to intimate partners, as they will share a bedroom and queen bed. Both partners should maintain an active creative practice, either collaborative or independent from one another.

  • TRP awards these stipended residency spots to only a few outstanding artists each year. Project Overview

The CAC believes that uplifting and prioritizing the voices and needs of Native American
artists will strengthen California’s arts and culture sector and improve the lives of all
Californians. In partnership with the Governor’s Office of the Tribal Advisor, the CAC
convened a group of Native American and Indigenous artists based in California to
discuss the challenges, needs and opportunities for Native artists and communities. The
initial focus of the meeting was to plan a larger state-wide convening to be held at a
later date. However, the day’s conversation highlighted a number of needs the CAC
might address through a dedicated grant program, and the agency was able to outline
an opportunity for Native American and Indigenous artists as part of its 2024/25 grant
strategy approved by the Council.

To help the CAC, and the State prioritize the needs of Native American artists across
California, the CAC seeks to contract with a qualified consultant to design a process
and co-create a grant program to support Native and Indigenous artists. The goal of the
program will be to be address and mitigate disparities of funding and increase the
visibility of Native American artists. The CAC is committed to following through on its
promise to create opportunities for Native American and Indigenous artists. The
engagement of this contractor is an initial step in following through on this promise
You are invited to review and respond to this Request for Application (RFA), entitled Native American and Indigenous Artists in California.  This RFA will result in an Interagency Agreement with a UC, CSU, an Authorized CSU Auxiliary Organization, or a California State Agency/Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

CAC is looking for a UC/CSU/Authorized CSU Auxiliary in this work. Qualified applicant
partners will have:

  • At least two years of experience engaging with California’s Tribal Nations (see
    proposal requirements for providing examples)
  • Experience working with government institutions knowledge and/or experience in
    the field of philanthropy, grantmaking, development
  • Knowledge and/or experience of community engagement design practices
  • Functioning office located in California
  • Ability to travel to Sacramento and other locations for in-person meetings

BUDGET

Budget for this project is $50,000, inclusive of all expenses and office costs (e.g., travel,
lodging, supplies, and materials, etc.)

ABOUT BRIGITTE & BOBBY SHERMAN CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION (BBSCF)

 

The Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation (BBSCF) is dedicated to empowering children and youth in Ghana by blending music and education at its youth center in Ada. Founded in 2011 by activist Brigitte Sherman and former teen idol Bobby Sherman, BBSCF addresses educational inequities by providing essential support and resources. Recognizing the barriers such as tuition fees, lack of transportation, and poverty that prevent many children from continuing their education beyond primary school, BBSCF offers financial assistance covering school fees, uniforms, shoes, food, and supplies.

 

Since its establishment, BBSCF has been tirelessly working to enhance the quality of education, health, food, and recreation for children in the region. By fostering a supportive environment and bridging educational gaps, the foundation aims to motivate children to pursue further education and experience the transformative power of music.

 

BBSCF has steadily grown its impact, and with ongoing support, it continues to strengthen its programs to secure the future success of Ghanaian children. POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Development (Director) will spearhead the fund development and communication efforts for the Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation (BBSCF). Collaborative and innovative, the Director will work closely with the CEO to develop and execute a long-term fundraising vision and strategic direction for the organization.

 

With a diverse funding portfolio and an overall organization budget, the incoming Director will establish a robust fundraising infrastructure to support BBSCF’s mission and growth. The Director will lead Development responsibilities to set and achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals, managing all aspects of fundraising, events, and external communications.

 

A successful Director of Development will be well-versed in equitable fundraising strategies, practice diplomacy in all job-related interactions, and possess a strong understanding of developing and executing a financial vision. Building relationships with and stewarding donors, partners, and prospects, as well as publicly representing BBSCF to secure major and transformational gifts, will be key priorities. The Director’s overarching goal is to ensure that the foundation’s fundraising and communication strategies effectively support and scale BBSCF’s mission, goals, and initiatives.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Development Strategy & Organizational Leadership

 

• Develops and oversees the creation and execution of an annual development plan and budget to meet annual organizational goals

 

• Develops and oversees fundraising strategies.

 

• Collaborates with CEO to give focus to the fundraising efforts of the Board of Trustees

 

• Oversees all fundraising efforts for foundation, corporate, individual and government sectors.

 

• Facilitates and participates in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition of donors (individual and corporate), involving volunteer leaders (such as board members and other community members) as appropriate.

 

• Plans and executes donor cultivation and stewardship events.

 

• Creates, and oversees the individual giving and major gifts program by identifying prospects, cultivating donors, and facilitating solicitation.

 

• Builds upon and ensures the development management system is maximized and working efficiently to meet development goals.

 

Communications

 

• Oversees brand continuity end ensures that all content reflects the foundation’s mission and values.

 

• Develops and partners with a public relations firm to implement a communications strategy.

 

• Produces in partnership with the marketing firm an Annual Report to highlight the incredible work BBSCF is doing.

 

• Uses data and feedback to continually improve communication efforts and outcomes.

 

• Partners with the firm to prepare and distribute press releases, media kits, and other PR materials

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Minimum of four (4) years’ development, fundraising and communications experience

 

• Prior experience working in organizations with a budget of 1 million or higher.

 

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field

 

• Direct experience cultivating and solicitating donations at the $5,000 level and up.

 

• Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing strategies for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations, foundations, and prospective board members.

 

• Attention to details with experience developing and forecasting a budget.

 

• Proficiency in donor management software.

 

• Strong administrative and communication skills.

 

• A polished and specialized demeanor to represent BBSCF and its values in public-facing opportunities with trustees, donors, volunteers and constituents.

 

• Familiarity with basic nonprofit accounting principles preferred.

 

• Prior experience working in international nonprofits preferred.

 

• Familiarity with the youth services preferred.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

 

The salary range for this hybrid position based in Los Angeles is $130,000 – $150,000. In addition, BBSCF offers a comprehensive benefits package including ample vacation and sick leave.

Animation Teacher

Venice Arts is seeking a creative educator in animation (2D and Stop Motion) to teach in-person classes centered around personal and community storytelling, using Venice Arts’ experiential and project-based approach to education. The ideal candidate can lead beginning to advanced workshops for youth, ages 10-18. Teaching artists are expected to create theme-based projects that ignite the next generation of storytellers!

Venice Arts provides a syllabus template and examples that outline our pedagogical approach and aims to support teaching experience through bi-annual training, classroom observations, and feedback. We look for educators who can comfortably work within our teaching model while making thoughtful modifications to make the class their own.

Qualifications

Prior experience working with young people is required with at least one year of teaching experience preferred. Familiarity with project-based learning and interactive teaching is a strong plus. We seek educators with a breadth of knowledge of relevant historic and contemporary artistic practices.

● Must have experience with animation including a foundational knowledge of hand drawn animation, stop motion and the production process

● Must have experience animating with iPads and digital cameras

● Experience with Dragonframe and Flip-A-Clip is preferred

● Familiarity with personal storytelling and documentary narratives is a plus

Schedule

Classes meet for 12 weeks during the fall semester beginning in mid-September, and 12 weeks in the spring semester beginning in February and running through early May, culminating with a public exhibition and screening of student work.

We are currently seeking an educator for the Ametuer Animator class, which will meet Wednesdays 4-6pm, with the Teaching Artist expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to class, and to stay at least 30 minutes after class to debrief and plan with their teaching team. Applicants must be available to teach during this time from September 7-December 10, 2024, and from February 4-May 6, 2025, and must commit to attending Faculty Meetings in August and January.

We strongly prefer candidates who are interested in building a sustained relationship and who consider education a part of their ongoing practice.

Compensation

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Entry level teaching artists begin with a teaching rate of $115 for every two hour class (3 hours at a teaching rate of $30/hour and 1 hour for prep at the admin rate of $25/hour). Syllabus writing (up to 8 hours), preparation hours, and mandatory training are also paid at the administrative rate of $25/hour.

Essential Responsibilities

The Vice President will have these primary responsibilities:

• Direct the work of the development team of approximately twenty full and part-time employees.
• Work closely with key members of the Board of Directors and colleagues engaged with programming, marketing, and finance.
• Cultivate and solicit leadership gift prospects.
• Manage the Board Development Committee, Center Fund Committee and Board Orientation.
• Participate in, plan, and evaluate a variety of cultivation activities.
• Create the framework, initiate, and manage an endowment campaign.
• Continually monitor the fundraising support infrastructure, including return on investment.

Organizational Leadership
• Foster a culture of philanthropy that fully engages staff, board members, donors, and other community members in a deep and meaningful way.
• Act as an inspirational team leader to the Development Department, in order to recruit, retain, support, and guide a diverse team of development professionals who are engaged, active in relationship-building, and growing in their roles.
• Serve as a member of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts senior leadership team, collaborating on high-level planning and decision making.
• Understand and uplift the Center’s values of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and ensure they are incorporated into the Development team’s operations.
• Communicate and collaborate across departments, about the Development Department’s upcoming projects, events, and goals.
• Be a strong partner to the VP of Marketing and Communications as part of ensuring brand cohesion, integrated patron strategies, and mutual support of healthy community and audience relationships and growth.
• Participate in and attend local and state advocacy and fundraising meetings, events, and roundtables, in order to represent Segerstrom Center for the Arts and maintain valuable strategic relationships.

Fundraising
• Provide strategic and creative leadership in raising approximately $16M in annual contributed revenue through grants, foundation support, corporate sponsorship, individual giving, special events and other fundraising activities that meets the organization’s operational needs and aligns with the Center’s goals for the future.
• Contribute to building and sustaining a positive departmental culture that supports a commitment to team goals and core values, and that fosters the development of individual leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement in project management.
• Support the career goals of the development staff members by providing professional growth opportunities and mentorship that is attentive to their individual needs as well as the department overall.
• Collaborate with the CEO and the CFO to forecast contributed income levels, set strategic goals, and then evaluate progress toward achieving or adjusting those goals.
• Oversee the Development Department’s budget.
• Advise and collaborate with the CEO in their own efforts to cultivate donors and solicit major gifts for the organization.
• Discuss with and motivate Trustees individually in terms of their relationship to giving to the organization.

Qualifications

Key Selection Criteria:

Candidates are expected to have the following type of experience and qualifications:

• Significant nonprofit fundraising experience with a sizable institution.
• Demonstrated management skills in motivating, directing, and managing staff, and in supporting the fundraising activities of others; expertise in mentoring staff, encouraging the best efforts of each member of the team, and modeling active solicitation. Minimum 15 years leadership experience.
• Demonstrated success with Board relationships, annual fundraising, special campaigns, and direct leadership gift solicitations.
• Broad-based knowledge of various development activities including direct mail, proposal and grant writing, planned giving, event planning and management, leveraging fundraising databases and support systems for donor segmentation, and research and volunteer management.

The successful candidate should be:
• An experienced, proven leader with the ability to project confidence, humility, emotional intelligence, high energy, and empathy. A hands-on engaging individual who also possesses the ability to see the entire picture of the organization, its mission, its position in the community and in the arts world.
• A mission-driven individual with a belief in and commitment to the mission of SCFTA; a strong interest in, and passion for, the performing arts and the diverse communities of Orange County.
• A good listener and strategist; comfortable receiving input from many sources, and able to analyze and formulate disparate information into a sound, well-organized plan.
• Determined yet respectful of others’ concerns; someone with the flexibility and creativity needed to find alternative ways to reach funding objectives when barriers arise; a skilled negotiator who does not drive him/her selves or others into a corner.
• A charismatic communicator, able to build enthusiasm for the Center, its performances and programs, and for innovative approaches that advance the reputation of SCFTA as a performing arts leader in Southern California; exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• A hard worker with a high energy level; a “doer” with a willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of development and advancement activities.
• Emotionally mature with a very good sense of humor and the flexibility and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations.
• Knowledge of the arts, particularly of the performing arts, and the ability to communicate an excitement about the artistic product to donors, are essential.

Both jurors will be given the same maximum number of works to select. All works independently selected by each juror will be included in the exhibition.

Continuing our annual show devoted to women artists, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts is committed to bringing more gender equity to the world of art. This 16th year we extend our reach around the globe to artists who identify as female and encourage them to submit to this popular ONLINE show.

The art must be created by a person who identifies as female but the work DOES NOT need to reference or allude to images of women or women’s issues. It is certainly OK if they do!

Our curation and presentation of the selected work are exceptional. We promote the artists through social media, print media and email outreach. We create a quality printable catalog of the show and the online shows are archived but accessible after the close of the show. Visit our website to see examples of other online shows.
