Call for Art! Earthbound: Art for a Sustainable Future

The City of Santa Rosa Public Art Program invites artists to submit proposals for temporary art installations with the theme Earthbound: Art for a Sustainable Future. This exhibition will explore the intersection of art and sustainability, showcasing works that highlight environmental responsibility, eco-friendly materials, and innovative approaches.

Eligibility: Open to individual artists or artist teams, 18 years and older, who reside in California. Previously completed artworks or artwork proposals are accepted.  

Location:  Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa, California 

Exhibition Timeline: Artwork will be displayed for the month of April.  

Project Budget: Artist is to submit full cost of artwork.  (this will cover travel, artist stipend, installation, and deinstallation costs). The total amount allocated for all artist stipends is $10,000.

Part-Time Evaluation Associate (Hybrid/Remote)

The Armory is seeking an Evaluation Associate for our Programs department. The Evaluation Associate works closely with the VP of Programs and all the Directors (Studio, Schools, Offsite Community & Exhibitions) to coordinate, collect and organize visitor data for evaluations of education and exhibition programs. The Evaluation Associate works a variable schedule, based on project needs, up to 29 hours a week. 

This Evaluation Associate will support Armory Arts-Inspired Youth Program Assessment (INSPO), a grant-funded project, structured over four distinct phases. INSPO project results include new insights into ways to capture youth experiences in the arts; rigorous and nuanced teacher assessment of student performance, which can be used to refine programs that serve historically overlooked communities in our region; an enhanced capacity to measure social emotional learning outcomes; and improved visitor experiences. Success will be measured by greater empowerment for youth who participate in the evaluation in a more joyful and creative experience, giving diverse participants agency in their storytelling. We will also measure the fluency of program staff and teaching artists as they increase their understanding of foundational elements of traditional program evaluation alongside non-traditional arts based evaluation.

The ideal candidate has the following skills:

Responsibilities for this part-time position include, but are not limited to:

  • Invite, encourage, and recruit Armory visitors and students to participate in evaluation studies, offering incentives when appropriate.
  • Interact with Armory visitors and students to collect data both independently, and as part of an Evaluation Team.
  • Administer both traditional surveys on either tablets or paper, keeping detailed logs of survey activities and encouraging visitors and students to participate in non-traditional, creative evaluation strategies.
  • Flexibility and curiosity to consider non-traditional evaluation tools and methods.
  • Pilot, implement, and give feedback on evaluation instruments, including surveys, creative evaluation strategies and interview protocols.
  • Data management; organize and manage all collected data.
  • Data analysis; analyze traditional and non-traditional data.
  • Reporting; present data internally to Armory staff and other stakeholders. 

This part-time position has the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least two years of equivalent training or experience.
  • Experience with or coursework related to methods of social science research. Graduate-level coursework is desirable.
  • One or more years of experience interacting with visitors or customers in public spaces, informal learning spaces, or with participants in research studies, either as paid staff or as a volunteer, or similar experience.
  • Experience conducting in-person interviews, in one-on-one or group settings.
  • Experience engaging participants for research studies or similar outreach activities in another setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency with Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Excellent listening, observation, and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • A positive and professional attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and adapt to unexpected circumstances in the course of performing job duties.
  • Strong interest in visual arts.
  • Availability to work weekends and during traditional school holidays.
  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable.

Compensation

$25/hour up to 29 hours per week. This part-time position is hybrid, grant-funded through August 31, 2026.

Biofeedback Art|Research Network (BARN) is a global community of artists, makers, scholars, and researchers exploring the intersection of biological data and creative expression.

Members integrate biosensors into their creative practices, seeking to better understand the terms and implications of converging biological organisms with human-made artifice — particularly data-sourcing technology and “intelligent” devices. Through this work, we probe questions of embodiment, agency, and what it means to be human in an age of pervasive sensing and algorithmic systems.

Open Submission for a Group Art Show

Hello Friend! Welcome to the interest form for ‘hope you have a good time’ a 1-day group show on December 13th in Mid-City Los Angeles 

This show means a lot to me, and the fact that you are interested in submitting something you care about is so special. This form will help you with submitting your art. The Submission Deadline is November 24th. Accepted entries will be notified by November 30th. 

Please Note: After you submit this form you will receive communication on the specific entry requirements for your medium.

The concept of having a good time is unique for every single person. It is a completely subjective experience that relates to one’s own interests, goals, and dreams. Simultaneously, it is not always an easy thing to have a good time, to find what interests or brings fulfillment. 

As an exposition, this show hope you have a good time explores a handful of stories and possibilities of what a ‘good time’ can be for individuals. 

1.  The artist is providing a good time for the observer of the art

2.  The artist is experiencing a good time in the act of creating the project

3.  The art itself is seemingly experiencing a good time

Art work submitted should convey what brings the artist fulfillment and satisfaction. Whether this is a personal journey or one that you are hoping to cultivate with others. As a group show, the goal is to showcase a series of possible avenues in which individuals have a good time. 

Submission Guidelines 

Video Artwork (film, animation, etc.)
Max run time is 15 minutes (for blocking and event scheduling)

Performance Art (music, theatre, poetry, etc.)
Max set time is 30 minutes (for blocking and event scheduling)

Photography and Still Arts (photography, painting, sculpture, etc.)
Limit to 3 photographs for print, 10 photographs for slideshow submissions

The Hundred Dresses Trunk Show

In 1941, a young librarian with a passion for storytelling crafted a children’s classic novel that delved into prejudice, bullying, and empathy. The Hundred Dresses, penned by Eleanor Estes, narrates the poignant tale of Wanda Petronski, a little Polish girl who becomes the target of teasing from her classmates, led by Peggy and Maddie—the original mean girls.

The Hundred Dresses Trunk Show, a significant collaborative effort curated by Louisa Higgins, Riverside County Office of Education Arts Administrator, and Karen Riley, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery Executive Director, is not
just an exhibit. It’s a powerful testament to the role of art in nurturing kindness, inclusion, imagination, and creativity. This transformative journey beckons everyone to join. The exhibit will feature one hundred unique dress images crafted by a diverse collective of amateur and professional artists. It will embark on a tour across Riverside County in 2025. We invite students, teachers, librarians, parents, and professional artists to contribute to the exhibit by submitting their own dress artworks. Selected dresses will be framed and part of this exclusive, traveling art show.

Parameters: • Size – 5” x 7”.
• Work must be on paper.
• Acceptable mediums: crayon, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, or collage.
• Colorful, imaginative work, as well as use of recycled materials is stronglyencouraged.

The Hayward Area Recreation and Parks District is seeking a dynamic and passionate Program Leader III to join our Arts team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in studio arts and exceptional administrative skills, with the ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines. This role focuses on arts education program planning and administrative duties, to seamlessly deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive activities for the community. The candidate should be extremely detail-oriented and proficient in database maintenance and accurate with data entry, familiar with contract management, and comfortable with accounts payable processes. Strong communication skills are essential, as the candidate will be responsible for writing copy for the quarterly recreation guide and handling interactions with staff, instructors, and the public in a diplomatic way. While Spanish fluency is highly desired to better serve our diverse community, it is not required.

 

 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

•   Planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of arts education programs and activities, with a focus on studio arts.

•   Supervising and supporting arts instructors and contractors, ensuring they have the resources needed for success.

•   Coordinating arts events, workshops, and classes, ensuring they align with community needs.

•   Collaborating with schools, community organizations, and local artists to expand program offerings.

•   Managing program inventory and supply purchases in coordination with studio specialists.

•   Maintaining program records, preparing reports, and continuously evaluating program outcomes.

•   Leading seasonal camp staff and problem-solving any issues that arise.

•   Ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all participants and staff.

•   Addressing participant inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

 

 

 

This position is ideal for someone who excels in administrative roles, has a passion for arts education, and can effectively communicate with a diverse community. Spanish fluency is highly desired to enhance communication with our Spanish-speaking population.

DEFINITION

Under direction, plans, coordinates, directs and implements a variety of District programs, events and activities within assigned program area or areas; plans, schedules and coordinates logistics; trains, leads and directs the work of subordinate staff and volunteers; performs difficult and complex support work related to District programs, events and activities; provides routine and moderately complex administrative support; assumes responsibility for site and/or program activities in the absence of a superior; and performs related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is the advanced level lead class in the Program Leader series. Incumbents in this class typically lead and direct the activities of subordinate staff within an assigned program area, but may also be assigned to perform difficult and complex support work within a program area.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1.  Plans, organizes and leads program activities within an assigned program area.

2.  Lead the work of subordinate staff and volunteers on regular and ongoing basis; provides staff training in a wide range of program areas.

3.  Performs difficult and complex program activities; communicates with parents, participants, staff, and volunteers regarding program-related issues; takes action to resolve the issues based on District policy and procedure and within limits of authority.

4.  Oversees and directs the preparation of buildings and facilities and the setting up of equipment for scheduled activities/events.

5.  Inspects program areas and equipment and recommends maintenance and repair as needed.

6.  Maintains records of participation and collects participant fees.

7.  Oversees and directs the transportation, issuance, receipt and use of program equipment and supplies; monitors equipment inventories and recommends procurement of items as needed.

8.  Implements and monitors District procedures regarding the safety of participants.

9.  Performs administrative duties such as phone and counter reception and registration processing, attending/scheduling staff meetings, recommending scheduling of staff, preparing reports, and monitoring expenditures.

10. Demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and the public at all times.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

The equivalent of three years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) paid experience in the specific assigned program area. Specific areas of expertise may vary depending on program specialty.

 

Any equivalent combination or experience, training and/or education that provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the class as determined by the District is also acceptable.

 

License:

Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver’s license.

 

Certifications:

Must obtain certification in First Aid and CPR from a recognized provider within six (6) months of employment and must maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of continued employment.

 

Certain positions may require that additional certifications be obtained.

 

Special Requirements:

•   Must be at least 16 years of age. Candidates currently enrolled in high school must possess a valid work permit.

•   Candidates 18 years of age or older must pass a fingerprint and/or background clearance prior to employment.

•   May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays.

•   May be required to travel between various locations.

•   Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
