OVERVIEW
The Executive Director works with the Artistic Director to provide leadership in all areas of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for administrative oversight of the organization including financial management and ensuring operational effectiveness. The Executive Director represents the organization to its many internal and external constituents including vendors, donors, the general public, partners, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Board Governance and Relations: Works with the Board of Directors in order to fulfill the organization’s mission, core values, and vision.
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Responsible for providing to the Board of Directors information and updates related to their areas of responsibilities in order to ensure organizational efficiency.
Attends all board meetings and participates in discussions.
Financial: Responsible for the overall financial integrity of the organization.
Responsible for working with the Board of Directors to create the organization’s annual budget.
Has a comprehensive understanding of operating budget and ensures that the organization is managing its cash flow, accounts payables, accounts receivables, investments, and bank accounts responsibly.
Oversees the budget including planning, preparing, monitoring, reporting, and administration including producing monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
Recommends, oversees, and manages new opportunities for the organization to grow and develop new revenue streams.
Oversees staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors and delegates certain projects that fall under their responsibilities.
Administrative:
Oversees and implements appropriate resources, systems, and processes to ensure that the physical spaces of the organization are well maintained and safe. Responsible for building/facilities management, IT, and office operations including ensuring that internal communications and operations are effective.
Tracks and reports on activities related to ticket sales, class enrollment, product sales, and production data, as well as the general operations of the organization.
Oversees staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors and delegates certain projects that fall under their responsibilities.
Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other contracts made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Responsible for human resources (including payroll administration), insurance, required filings, compliance, reporting, etc.
Fundraising: Works with Board of Directors and staff to create ambitious, yet achievable fundraising goals. Directly responsible for setting and achieving fundraising goals.
Responsible for the development, promotion, and execution of all fundraising efforts initiated by the organization, including but not limited to individual giving, foundation and corporate giving, grants, events, sponsorships, product sales, donor acknowledgment and stewardship, etc.
Oversees a portfolio of individual and institutional donors.
Creates and manages content for fundraising and development activities. Administers fundraising databases and systems.
Oversees staff, volunteers, and vendors responsible for certain development/fundraising activities including grants management, donor cultivation and stewardship, and reporting.
Programs: Ensures the smooth operation and administration of classes and programs and productions.
Supports the Artistic Director in ensuring that educational programming adheres to organizational values and goals, as well as creating the bridge between classes and artistic programs.
Supports the Artistic Director in ensuring that live productions and online programming aligns with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Supports the Artistic Director in creating and executing annual programming that fulfills the artistic vision for the organization.
Provides management and/or hands-on support when needed, including at productions.
Marketing and Promotion:
Ensures that the marketing budget is sufficient and managed appropriately to meet organizational objectives.
Attends community events and social functions on behalf of KML to broaden the recognition of KML in both the artistic community and the Bay Area community as a whole.
Ensures availability for interviews with press and media contacts from newspaper, websites, blogs, podcasts, and radio.
Responsible for maintaining portions of the website, managing elements of social media, and other promotions and outreach.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or more years of nonprofit arts administration experience including marketing, HR, outreach, office management, company management, operations management, patron services, etc.
Two or more years of nonprofit experience researching, cultivating, soliciting, securing, stewarding and growing contributed income from individuals, major donors, foundations, corporations and government agencies, with experience writing foundation, corporate and governmental LOIs, grant proposals and reports.
Demonstrated public speaking/presentation, communication, and collaboration skills
Demonstrated organizational, fiscal and personnel management and mentoring skills
Knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting and experience creating both annual and program budgets
Quick to respond to problems and concerns, and won’t shy away from necessary conversations
Demonstrable experience prioritizing DEI and anti-racist initiatives
Strong advocate for artist safety, pay, and career development, and outspoken promoter of the importance of the arts
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Berkeley/Oakland AileyCamp at Cal Performances is a program of the department of Education under the general supervision of the Director of Education. AileyCamp is a nationally proven arts education program that uses dance as a vehicle for developing self-esteem, creative expression, and critical thinking skills among 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students (aged 11-14) who are at risk of dropping out of school. AileyCamp also provides exceptional dance training to middle school students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. The AileyCamp (Modern) Dance Instructor will teach, model and support student learning in and through dance techniques to the AileyCampers. Specific techniques in Modern (Horton technique). The dance instructor will be working collaboratively with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, Guidance Counselor, Creative Communications instructor, Personal Development instructor, and a staff of Group Leaders to ensure a supportive professional environment.

Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Five day work week (online) – Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., all weeks except the week of staff training which may include a Saturday or Sunday.
• Teach up to three classes per day, four days per week or as determined by the Artistic and Managing Director.
• Participate in the general oversight of the campers, including at camper free periods, including but not limited to assist with other class engagement, support Group Leaders in their oversight of individual groups of campers, provide supervision during lunch and breaks as assigned on a rotating basis, and take on projects in support of camp, production preparation, and audience engagement.
• Participate in individual and AileyCamp staff meetings, including scheduled meetings before and after camp.
• Plan lessons that will develop physical and mental stamina, agility, grace, cooperative work and an appreciation for the joys of rigorous discipline among youth.
• Provide schedule of proposed class content to Artistic and Managing Directors for final approvals and integration with the whole camp curriculum.
• Coordinate with Group Leaders to assess campers’ individual needs, and support them in interventions to meet these needs.
• Produce camper progress evaluations, documentation for Camp Video, Anthology, and other materials celebrating the campers’ experience.
• Choreograph a camper presentation for the final performance.
Required Qualifications
• Requires prior experience as a professional dancer and dance instructor in Modern (Horton technique).
• Demonstrated experience working with urban children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, identified as having one or more of the following at-risk factors: living with a single parent or no parent; having a sibling who dropped out of school or became a school-age parent; having difficulty with the traditional school structure as determined by teacher observation; or having low self-esteem.

The Group Leaders/Teaching Assistants will supervise, support, and mentor campers as they move through their camp day, as needed demonstrate and help campers learn dance steps, and assist them with activities in other classes. Group leaders are responsible for a group of 8 to 16 campers, rotating through a schedule of early morning responsibilities, and assisting instructors and providing support to campers throughout the day. Twice a week or more often, Group Leaders will also be responsible for leading their campers in a creative and/or team-building lesson.
