Request for Qualifications – Pavement Art Public Art Project

The City of Napa opens a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists, or artist teams, to develop unique paving designs for one of six (6) intersections in downtown Napa. These creative paving designs are intended to increase safety for all roadway users, especially pedestrians, and create a public art intervention to energize our streets.

This RFQ is part of a multi-phase process and is open to US-based artists and graphic designers with previous professional experience in public commissions or whose professional experience is adequate to meet the demands of the project.

Thunderdomesticity: Witness Me

Thunderdomesticity: Witness Me is a national juried exhibition designed to honor the strength of women (including but not limited to: cis women, trans women, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender fluid people) during dystopian times. All artists from the United States, regardless of gender, are invited to submit one or two high quality photographs of their art before the deadline of April 4, 2025. Witness Me is the 4th annual Thunderdomesticity exhibition, and it will feature artwork that is post-apocalyptic, feminist, and everything in between. During a time when it feels like the world is ending, it is vital to see and respect people of marginalized genders. The juror of this exhibition is Klaire Lockheart, host of the Femininity in the Post-Apocalypse podcast. Accepted artwork will be professionally printed, with the longest dimension at 8”. The prints will be wheat-pasted to the exterior of No. 7 Center Gallery in Vermillion, SD. The selected images will also be included in an online exhibition hosted by the Packard Group at packardgroupllc.com. Artwork does not need to be figurative nor narrative to be considered, but self-portraits are encouraged. The opening reception will occur on Final Friday, May 30, 2025. The outdoor exhibition of prints will be on display from May 30 through July 25, 2025. There is no entry fee to submit artwork, but artists will pay a $30 printing fee for each accepted image. No physical artwork will be shipped to the gallery. (Due to the ephemeral nature of wheat-paste, the prints will be exposed to the elements and public. The prints will change over time and be destroyed in the removal process after the show ends.)

Art Fluent invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our online exhibit, UNTAMED

THEME
Let’s celebrate the untamed spirit of the animal kingdom. From the majestic to the minute every creature carries character, wisdom, and energy uniquely their own. We’re looking for artwork that captures the undeniable presence and beauty of the creatures we share our world with. Show us UNTAMED from your perspective.

CALENDAR
JPEGs due by Friday, May 16, 2025 at midnight MST.
Notification of acceptance and online gallery opening by Friday, June 13, 2025.

AWARDS
All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at www.art-fluent.com

Two Director’s Choice awards: $250 each

ENTRY FEE 
$25 for first entry/$10 for each additional entry. You may enter up to 20 total. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance. For 3D work, there is no need to pay for additional entries for detail shots. Once your first entry is made, you may send additional views by email to hello@art-fluent.com.

ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to artists worldwide, both amateur and professional. Work that has been selected for previous exhibits with Art Fluent will not be considered.

RULES
Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. Open to ALL fine art mediums (oil, acrylic, watermedia, pastel, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, fiber, wood, ceramics, film/video, digital art). AI will not be accepted. Diptychs and triptychs should be uploaded as a single image.

SELECTION PROCESS
Director’s choice. Each show is curated and juried by Creative Director, Amy Matteson Neill along with an anonymous committee of jurors. Please note, there is no personal feedback given by jurors.

ENTRY PROCEDURE
Entry is done through CaFÉ, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the CaFÉ website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to CaFÉ and then you can submit work to UNTAMED. If you have any questions, please contact us at hello@art-fluent.com we are happy to walk you through the process.

MEDIA PREPARATION
Please only submit properly cropped images of your work that are in focus. We have a free resource for artists for tips on how to get high quality images of your work. Visit www.art-fluent.com/resources for a free download. CaFÉ also offers tips on their blog which you can find here www.callforentry.org/photographing-artwork/.

All images must be in JPEG/JPG format using CaFÉ guidelines. The image size must be 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side. Maximum file size is 5 mb. 

Accepted video formats include MOV, MP4, WMV. Aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9, resolution minimum 640×480, maximum 1920 x1080, bit rate recommended above 240 kbps, recommended frame rate 30 fps. File size must be under 100 MB. If your video work has been selected for the exhibit, we kindly request that you provide us with the file link via Vimeo. Please ensure the linked video is set to be shared publicly. Your video will not play if it is set to private.

NOTIFICATION  
Notification will be done by email, everyone who submits will be notified of the juror’s selections. If for any reason you do not hear from us by the notification date, please check the filters in your email account. Notification emails are sent to the email on file with CaFÉ.

SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website and/or contact information. For any artwork that is sold, the artists receive 100% of the sale.  

GIVING BACK
A portion of the proceeds from the entry fees is donated to organizations committed to the arts and supporting artists.

REGULATIONS 
By entering our calls for art through CaFÉ you are agreeing to be added to Art Fluent’s email list for forthcoming artist opportunities. By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, nothing copied, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist, our mission is to promote artists and their work. Should your work be accepted, you grant Art Fluent the right to reproduce your image on our website, on social media, and where appropriate to help promote further online opportunities. Art Fluent will always credit you and your copyright wherever feasible. We will not use your image for any other purpose without the artist’s permission.

Open Call for Art: How is the Weather?

How is the weather? Art and Climate Change

Juried by Shana Nys Dambrot, an art critic, curator, and author based in Downtown
LA. Formerly the arts editor at the L.A. Weekly, she is the co-founder of
13ThingsLA, and a contributor to the Village Voice, Flaunt, Artillery, and other
culture publications. She studied art history at Vassar College, curates and
juries exhibitions, writes prolifically for exhibition catalogs and monographic
publications, and speaks at galleries, schools, and cultural institutions nationally. 

Dramatic weather is everywhere, affecting our lives, more than ever before.  We just experienced the hottest average temperature ever recorded on Earth. Heavy, blinding fog, smoke from forest fires and incessant smog fill the air. We have had record sleet and snowfall this year, giving us dangerous swollen rivers late into summer. 

Topicality is OCCCA’s forte, and the extreme weather caused by climate change has become an existential threat to our planet now. From Rembrandt and Turner to Gerhart Richter’s Secrets of Clouds, for centuries, artists have been interpreting the weather in their art. But now is the time for artists to make a statement.

Not just beautiful sunsets and devastatingly frightening floods, but show us your high tides, big waves, atmospheric rivers, and storm cells.  We have melting icebergs and glaciers falling into the ocean. Heat waves and dust blanketing large portions of the country. Tornadoes, hail, and lightning delivered by Cumulonimbus clouds.  Show us all the extremes and kick up a storm.

Send us your visions of hope, promising ideas, new solutions, and innovative creations that can mitigate the impending doom of climate change, if only we can implement them soon.  How will we respond to the existential threat of climate change with our art?

2025 Art That’s Small at City Hall

Requests for Artwork Deadline: Sunday, March 9, 2024, between 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Pre-register: E-mail form to mmcgregor@lagunabeachcity.net by March 3, 2025.

Eligibility: Entries will be accepted from residents of Orange County ages 18 or older. All entries must be original artworks created within the past two years and have not previously been exhibited at City Hall. Employees, Council members, Board members and Commissioners of the City of Laguna Beach are not eligible to apply.

Honorarium: First place: $600 | Second place $300 | Third place $150 | City Hall Choice $100

Competition Description: “Art That’s Small at City Hall” is an open exhibition coordinated by the City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission. All works deemed acceptable will be exhibited at Laguna Beach City Hall, located at 505 Forest Avenue, from March 9 through April 18, 2025.

Entry Requirements: A fee of $15 will be charged with one entry allowed per artist. Cash or check payment accepted. Checks should be made payable to City of Laguna Beach. Artwork (including the frame) must be no larger than 12” along any edge, and 3” in depth. Artwork may include oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, drawing, mixed media and relief. Artwork must be dry, in suitable display condition, and securely wired for hanging. The Cultural Arts Department, Arts Commission and appointed exhibition juror(s) retain the right to reject any submissions that do not fit the guidelines or spirit of the exhibition or that may be deemed inappropriate.

Timeline
Sunday, March 9, 2025 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  Artwork, with applications attached, and entry fee must be delivered to the main entrance of City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue. Any work submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Thursday, April 3, 2025 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Reception and awards ceremony held at Laguna Beach City Hall.
Friday, April 18, 2025 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (only)  Exhibition closes. Artwork must be collected from Laguna Beach City Hall.
