Ticketing Hall Public Art Installation at Reno-Tahoe International Airport

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is now accepting RFQ applications to select artist(s) for a public art display in the ticket hall expansion coming soon.

The Ticketing Hall Expansion consists of constructing a 9,500 square foot expansion to the west and renovation of the existing ticketing hall at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The scope includes modification of structural steel, elevator relocation, fire riser room relocation, upgraded utilities, roof replacement, new restrooms, and new finishes. The approximate construction limits extend from the face of the ticket counters to approximately twenty (20) feet to the west of the existing exterior wall, and from the existing escalators at the north end to the south existing wall.

The Ticketing Hall Expansion embraces the “Modern Mountain” aesthetic. Inspired by the rustic, natural beauty of the surrounding region, materials like wood and stone are woven throughout the hall and contrasted against the modern elements of steel and glass. “Water” has a strong influence in the design as well – from the beautiful blue color palette to the curvilinear patterns in the floor.

The Project Site of the artwork is a 7ft tall by 450ft long soffit that hangs directly over the airline ticket counters. The soffit spans the entire length of the ticketing hall and will be a primary focal point to passengers as they enter the space. The location will be highlighted by 15ft ceilings above and natural light from glass curtain walls to the west.

Interior finishes include:

• Ceiling – suspended grid with white acoustical ceiling tiles.

• Flooring – combination of grey and beige tile in the queuing area that meets up with blue and black terrazzo in the circulation path.

• Walls – below the soffit is painted beige; the walls parallel to the soffit are a combination of glass curtain wall, dimensional wood, and beige wall covering.

Artwork for the space could take the form of murals, sculptures, artistic signage, or mixed media installations.

Call For Artists – Newport Beach Sculpture Exhibition

The City of Newport Beach is pleased to announce a call for entries for Phase VIII of its ongoing Sculpture Exhibition to further activate the splendor of the City’s Civic Center Park. Artists, private collectors, galleries, and museums/non-profit institutions are invited to submit artworks for consideration for a temporary exhibition at the site.

Up to ten artworks may be selected and showcased for two years in the heart of Newport Beach in Civic Center Park. The 14-acre, ocean-view site was specially designed by renowned landscape architect Peter Walker as an intended sculpture garden. The Civic Center Park has developed into a destination for residents and visitors to gather for events and activities including summer concerts on the lawn, art shows, docent-led sculpture park tours, visits to the dog park, or leisurely walks along the park’s winding trail, appreciating its environmentally-friendly expanse of native plant life. As home to City Hall, City administrative offices, and the Central Branch of the city’s public library system, the Civic Center is the heart of Newport Beach.

This is a unique opportunity to display artworks in a serene, ocean-view setting made to be beautified by sculpture. This exhibition has consistently delighted and enriched visitors with the works of world-class artists both local and national. Youth Teaching Artist, Richmond Art Center

Richmond Art Center is looking for a Teaching Artist for our Youth Programs. The Youth Teaching Artist (YTA) collaborates with the Education Department team to develop curriculum and unique offerings, such as classes, workshops or programs. The YTA is an integral part of RAC’s staff and is entrusted with the support and care of our young community members. The ideal candidate must speak, read and write fluently in Spanish or Mandarin. This position is as a casual employee, 3-15 hrs a week, $35 per hour.

About Richmond Art Center 

Richmond Art Center (RAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization founded in 1936 by artist/educator Hazel Salmi. RAC moved into its current 25,000 sq. ft. facility as part of the City of Richmond’s Civic Center Plaza in 1951. RAC’s purpose is to provide a pathway for lifelong arts learning for people of all ages. About the Arts Education Program 

Our arts education programs offer art classes to adults, youth, kids and families; on-site in our seven studios, and off-site in local schools and community spaces. This includes serving Richmond Youth through a variety of programs and partnerships. 

Youth Serving Programs we offer:

After School Program– An 8-12 week program focused around a short-term
project or curriculum goal outside the classroom after the school day.

Residency Program– An 8-12 week program focused on in depth thematic or media exploration as a component of a school-wide project or curriculum goal. 
Day Program –An 8-12 week program focused around a short-term project or curriculum goal inside the classroom during the school day.
Art Tours Program- A 3hr field trip experience focused on developing youth engagement with artists, artwork and communities represented in RAC’s exhibition galleries. 
Summer Camp- A 6 week in depth program, ages 6-12, focused on the enrichment of youth artmaking experiences and exposures.
Artist Exchange-A 2-4 week summer intensive facilitated by a Youth Mentorship focused Teaching Artists for youth 12-17 as an in depth exploration of the artists process, media exploration and experience.
Portfolio Development-A 4-6 week mentorship program for youth 14-24 interested in developing their practice or preparing to apply to arts education programs as youth artists.
Teaching Art – Professional Development Program- A 1-3 Day program intensive for youth serving educators to integrate and expand art within their curriculum.

Description

Richmond Art Center’s (RAC) Youth Teaching Artists (YTA) directly report to the Education Manager and support select Youth Education Programs – Online, On-site, and Off-site. YTA collaborates with the needs of the Education Dept. to develop curriculum and unique offerings as RAC classes, workshops or programs. The YTA is seen as an extension of RAC and is entrusted with the support and care of our community members as a whole. Our goals for all of our Teaching Artists are to support the Mission, Vision and Values of the Richmond Art Center and lead enriched, dynamic, and inspiring visual arts programs for our vibrant and culturally diverse communities of Richmond, and beyond. Teaching Artists further our commitment to our communities when they lead, support and inspire each community member and all communities to explore their creativity through the engagement and experience of our programs, activities, workshops and classes.

Responsibilities are as follow, but are not limited to:

Develop proposals with the intention to engage youth in unique and enriched visual arts media and techniques
Collaborate with RAC Education Staff to support RAC Education Dept. Programs, Partnerships and Community stakeholders
Develop written lesson plans as curriculum outline in alignment with RAC Education Dept. standards, including materials list and AV support needs
Collect and coordinate materials, resources and supplies for assigned programs
Create a safe space to lead RAC Education Youth Programs with and for all community members and stakeholders
Reflect and assess program progress and impact in alignment with RAC Education Dept. standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

The ideal Youth Teaching Artists must demonstrate that they meet the following requirements:

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge, expertise, and passion for visual arts education and enrichment programs.
Min 2 years experience teaching or mentoring youth ages 5-24
Min 1 year experience teaching in-school programs for youth TK to 12th grade
Must Speak Read and Write fluently in Spanish or Mandarin
Availability during school hours with advance notice and flexibility in scheduling
Have reliable and consistent means of communication and transportation.
Submit to a federal-level background check via live scan fingerprinting.
Ability to routinely lift, push, pull, or carry art supplies, equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Must also bend, twist, reach, stand, and/or sit for long periods of time.
Builds in capacity to collaborate, problem-solve, be imaginative, and innovative with other Staff, Teaching Artists, Studio Monitors, Students, Volunteers, and visitors to meet program goals and needs.
Share values with RAC and support community with a safe, inclusive, supportive, and creative environment to learn and grow

Additionally, we ask the ideal Youth Teaching Artist to have the following qualifications and skills:

Demonstrates that their practice has a community focus or lens centering our vibrant and diverse communities like or of Richmond.
 Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate and articulate program needs, and be able to work independently while being communicative with RAC staff.
Is adaptable and flexible to sudden changes in workflow, able to smoothly strike a balance with class management and prioritizing the students’ needs. 
Share the desire to grow with RAC youth programs as our partnerships and opportunities grow.

Compensation

We do our best to offer competitive wages for our Teaching 

All Teaching Time for Classes will be paid an hourly rate of $35 an hour
Teaching Preparation Time will be paid at 2 hours per class meeting, we may adjust this number up depending on the intensity and frequency of the program
Any Meetings, Training, or Onboarding time requested by RAC will be paid at $35/hr.

Schedule

Schedule can fluctuate depending on the program needs of the Richmond Art Center and our partners. Youth programs are typically held Monday through Thursday 10am to 6pm with some Saturdays from 10am-3pm.

Autumn Vibes Art Competition

UPWARD Gallery invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our online competition and exhibit, Autumn Vibes.

Autumn — the season, maybe, mostly affecting the emotions of the artist. For some, autumn is a quiet sadness, withering, a harbinger of future death, and for other artists, the theme of autumn is an opportunity to use all possible natural colors in your work.
What does autumn mean for your creativity?

Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).

All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at upwardgallery.com.

Each participant of the competition receives his personal page on the UPWARD gallery. This page displays works that the artist submitted for participation in competitions, short biography text and artist statement, links to the artist’s website, as well as links to social media accounts, interview with the artist.

All entrants will receive electronic certificates based on the results of the competition.
The winners (1st place) are interviewed by the UPWARD Gallery editors for publication on the site.

NEW WORK – FOCUS ON LOS ANGELES – $1500 project grant

Prospect Art is seeking Los Angeles-based visual artists for the New Work series. We are looking for existing or new work by professional artists not currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Priority is given to artists not represented by a commercial gallery in Los Angeles. We are looking to feature artists/or collectives currently living in Los Angeles who don’t have an outlet for their work. The city has a large population of visual artists and a lack of not-for-profit support for process-based works. We will provide ONE ARTIST or ONE COLLECTIVE with the financial backing to finish a not previously exhibited work. Artists that make it to the final review round will qualify for studio visits with Prospect Art founders and will be featured on the website as finalists. We are looking for Los Angeles-based artists with established studio practices who have lived in the city for at least 5 years. Projects that are usually not well represented in commercial galleries will be prioritized.

Please prepare the following:

  • Contact information (including telephone number), Name, Email, Social media handles, website
  • If a collective is applying, provide collective name and a contact person
  • Description of the work you are seeking funds for (500 words or less)
  • Images of work and/or sketches (3-5 images, 10mb max size)
  • Website URL with examples of past work and/or video links for time-based samples

  • A 500-word CV or bio to be pasted into the Google form.

Two Public Art Opportunities at the City of Berkeley’s Aquatic Park:

Sculpture: A series of permanent sculptural artworks, at various locations along Aquatic Park Trail and/or Bolivar Drive, that inspire movement and exploration throughout Aquatic Park. Budget: $350,00 inclusive of artist fee, design, fabrication, transportation, and installation.

Wall-Based Artwork: This is an opportunity for an artist to translate two-dimensional imagery to tile, mosaic, or other permanent material. The artwork will be located at a prominent, large, curved wall situated along Aquatic Park’s pathway, near the intersection of Addison Street and Bolivar Drive. Budget: $70,000 inclusive of artist fee, design, fabrication, transportation, and installation.
