EXHIBITIONS AND FACILITIES COORDINATOR
Schedule: Variable – Approximately 8-12 hours/week, including weekends, and up to 40 hours/week during installation periods
Status: Part-Time, Regular, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reporting Structure: Reports to Artistic Director
Compensation: $30/hour

Position Description: Southern Exposure’s Exhibitions and Facilities Coordinator is the technical coordinator for projects, exhibitions, leads facilities-related upkeep and tasks, and serves as the weekend gallery attendant. They provide technical assistance in support of all of Southern Exposure’s programs.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibitions technical coordination:
Work closely with SoEx Artistic and Co-Director to plan and manage technical needs and schedules for all exhibitions and projects, communicating details regarding schedules, installation plans, artist needs, conflicts, changes, etc
Oversee the installation and de-installation of exhibitions and projects and the operation of AV equipment for events and facility rentals, create instructions for turning on and off installations
Maintain safe artwork handling protocols
Consult with staff, artists, curators, students, and rental clients regarding scheduling, installation, and technical needs of projects and events
Hire, schedule, and supervise preparators and contractors for carpentry, fabrication, AV operation, and installation/de-installation for projects and events
Facilities:
Maintain inventory of equipment, manage equipment storage area, keep storage areas organized, clean, and stocked
Make recommendations for equipment and facility purchases, repairs, and upgrades
Preparation and maintenance of gallery space, including wall painting, wall preparation, light construction, carpentry, lighting
Purchasing materials
Coordinate with facility vendors including electricians, exterminators, etc
Weekend gallery sitting:
Opens and closes Southern Exposure’s gallery on Saturdays (Open hours are 12-6pm, typically 30-35 Saturdays per year)
Responsible for the security of artwork on display in Southern Exposure’s gallery during assigned shifts, protecting artwork from accident or theft
Maintains a safe and clean gallery space for visitors
Operates AV equipment in gallery installations
Administrative coordination:
Meets weekly with Artistic and Co-Director to coordinate information
Responds promptly to emails and information requests from staff, artists, and curators
Regularly inventories equipment and supplies, orders materials as needed
Generates invoices and other administrative tasks as needed
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience working as a preparator in a museum or gallery
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Enthusiasm for Southern Exposure’s mission and for contemporary art
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through
Experience working collaboratively
Patience, flexibility, willingness to troubleshoot
Punctuality, reliability
Basic proficiency in email, office and online tools including Google Suite desired
Familiarity with AV equipment, ability to operate basic video equipment highly desirable
Carpentry skills highly desirable
Supervisory skills helpful
Physical Requirements:
Performing this job requires the use of tools or controls, sitting, communicating, standing, climbing ladders, balancing, stooping or kneeling. Lift and manipulate up to 40 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the gallery where the employee may be exposed to dust, fumes, or airborne particles from art supplies.

Sick leave: Employees earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, with a cap of 72 hrs/year
