¿WILD? public art residency project
“Wild?” was developed collaboratively by Madrona Marsh and Torrance Art Museum. The residency program invites contemporary artists with an environmental focus to interact with the Madrona Marsh Preserve, its Scientists, Researchers, Students, and the Public for a period of one month, during which they research, develop, and build a site specific work of public art to be presented on the grounds around the preserve for an exhibiting period of four months.
An integral part of the project is its non-institutional setting and environmental footprint. Distinguishing this project is the essential linkage between the preserve and the art. To be considered projects should be expressly in reference to or in synergy with the natural themes encompassed by the Madrona Marsh ecosystem. While connection to the Preserve is essential for any project chosen for this program it is also open ended and self directed allowing the artist to focus on any aspect that they are interested in researching and connecting the public to.
The program is open to artists working in all mediums 21 years and older. Recipients will receive a five hundred (500) dollar scholarship/stipend to deter costs of participating in the program as well as a one hundred (100) dollar supplies budget for art supplies, transportation, etc. International artist are welcome to apply, but there is no travel or accommodations. There is no application fee. Please see the PDF below for more information and instructions on how to apply.
