Project Description

With the support of the California Arts Council the Voices of the Golden Ghosts will work with community members of Shasta and Siskiyou County creating artworks which brings attention how the multi ethnic communities of Northern California were affected by the Gold Rush era of the 1850’s

Organization Summary

Voices of the Golden Ghosts uses the visual, literary, theatrical and media arts to reframe the historical realities of early California and contemporary realities for minority peoples in the North State. We specialize in promoting the underserved voices of our northern region that have been left out of the general publics knowledge and educational representations. We collaborate with artists, musicians, technicians, historians, and curators to provide rich content to our community at multiple public venues. We offer workshops in historical research and artistic practices such as acting workshops, video/film, and visual arts. Through these programs, we inspire and train our public in creating artworks that tell an authentic non-pioneer-orientated history to better represent the many minority communities that where present and participated in the early phases of what we now consider the State of California. Our programs are open to anyone and our events are attended by a wide selection of the community. As of this year we have opened our services to creating projects in film highlighting our first hour long feature film in 2024.
