Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Viewpoint Photographic Art Center will stabilize its ongoing programming and community outreach initiatives including Photography Month Sacramento, a monthly long, highly collaborative visual arts event created to provide opportunities for photographic artists at all levels to exhibit and sale their work.

Organization Summary

• EXHIBITS PROGRAM: Established and emerging photographic artists are presented in two dedicated galleries at Viewpoint. New exhibits are offered monthly in the Main Gallery and Step Up Gallery. Twenty-two exhibits are presented each year including open calls, group and solo exhibits. More than 250 photographic artists are featured in Viewpoint’s galleries annually. Exhibits are free and open the to public.
PHOTOGRAPHY MONTH SACRAMENTO—This month long event, presented in April each year to the entire region, is a highly collaborative and inclusive visual arts activation offering a series of events and hands-on activities. Over forty visual arts organizations have participated since the event was created in 2018. The event attracts an estimated 70,000 artists and patrons annually.
• PRINT & PORTFOLIO NIGHT PEER REVIEW: At Print Night, offered the first Wednesday of every month, Members and guests share their work in a collaborative group setting with other photographers. Portfolio Night is offered on the third Wednesday. Members and guests share a body of work and receive candid feedback from dedicated professionals.
• LECTURE SERIES–Viewpoint’s Lecture Series is free and open to the public, presenting a variety of photographic topics from drone photography to platinum palladium printing. Lectures are offered 2-to-3 times per year.
• WORKSHOP PROGRAM—An average of twenty workshops are offered annually covering a board range of topics both in-gallery, on location and around the world. Workshops are open to all and offered at a competitive rate.
• STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM—Free and open to high school and college level students of photography supported by our four regional community colleges (Sierra College, American River College, Cosumnes River and Sacramento City College) and Sacramento State University. This program has expanded over the past several years and includes a lecture component and an annual Student Exhibit in collaboration with the Crocker Art Museum.
