Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, the Vic James Center will employs visual art, written poetry, spoken word, storytelling, Shakespeare, improv & the performing arts to assist youth aged 16–25 in recovery from or at risk for Substance Use Disorder. The program aids such youth to express emotion constructively.

Organization Summary

The Vic James Center is an investment that directly benefit 1) one or more traditionally underserved populations and 2) underserved communities within geographies that have been systemically and/or systematically denied a full opportunity to participate in aspects of economic prosperity. The Vic James Center target demographic is those at risk or struggling with substance use disorder. That is considered a disability and often overlaps with mental health conditions, poverty, and homelessness. Our services are considered low barrier, which means that it is easy to access the services we provide without an overabundance of bureaucracy.
