Veterans in the Arts

Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park, in partnership with Westwind Brass, San Diego Dance Theater, and the San Diego Children’s Choir will present four veteran/military themed performances utilizing veteran artists as performers, writers and behind the scenes support. The events will take place at Balboa Park Food Truck Friday (July 6th), VMBP Veterans Week in November, (Month of the Military Child Festival) in April, and Memorial Day weekend.

Organization Summary

San Diego Veterans Day Parade; Spirit of ’45 National Day of Recognition; Monthly Memorial Services for San Diego Area Veterans and DoD active duty personnel; San Diego County Veteran of the Year Program; Vietnam Veterans of American Memorial Day Weekend with Fallen Veteran Recognition Program in partnership with the Vietnamese Community; Combat Nurse Recognition Program sending holiday appreciation baskets to Combat/Evac Hospitals in Afghanistan, Germany, and San Diego; Theater performances and concerts with in house team and in partnership with Cygnet theater, La Jolla Playhouse, American History Theater, North County Players, Westwind Brass, San Diego Youth Symphony, and other Jazz and pop music groups. Arts education programs for children and veterans; Active Duty Military retirement, change of command, promotion and reenlistment ceremonies; GI Film Festival and special movie premiers; Outreach programs with schools and exhibit in libraries and other public venues.
