With support from the California Arts Council, the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum will provide programming in Solano County that displays work of living artists, provides exhibit design opportunities for community members, interprets the history of the local Latino community, and enhances literacy for children and adults.
The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum preserves and exhibits the diverse and exciting history of the City of Vallejo and the former U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island. It is located in Vallejo’s historic Old City Hall and features five galleries devoted to community and U.S. Navy history. We have a working submarine periscope that gives an excellent view of the City and Mare Island. The Museum sponsors educational and cultural programs that include group tours, school field trips, concerts and recitals in our Heritage Chamber, lectures, audio-visual presentations, and others special events for the benefit of the community. The Museum owns an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs and historical materials used for a variety of research topics including genealogy, maritime, social justice and architecture.
