The Vacaville Museum is a vital community anchor for Solano County. Established in 1981 via a foundational endowment from Eva Buck, the Museum has evolved from an agricultural heritage repository into a modern 21st-century institution. Today, the Museum stewards over 30,000 objects while delivering community-driven programming that reflects the region’s evolving identity.

The Museum’s core service is our rotating gallery program, which utilizes a collaborative co-curation model. This approach ensures content is created in collaboration with the community, as demonstrated in the Museum’s most recent exhibit, Center Stage, which includes 55 local performing artists and arts organizations as contributors. The Museum launched it’s new Community Gallery in February 2026. This space hosts diverse projects to celebrate and uplift creative endeavors and emerging artists in our region. Displays in this space range from artist Carla Lawson’s inaugural solo show exploring the beauty of Black hair to powerful collaborations with California State Prison-Solano and the Solano Youth Achievement Center as part of their art rehabilitation efforts for incarcerated and parolee community members.

Education is central to the Museum’s organizational purpose. Our History Detectives program uses primary source artifacts to teach inquiry-based critical thinking. This initiative serves as a critical gateway. With 40-60% of participating students identifying as first-time museum visitors, these interactions establish a precedent for lifelong learning. The Museum maintains its 40-year legacy of free admission, ensuring these students can return with their families without financial barriers.

Underpinning these services is a robust collection featuring 1850s industrial and agricultural tools, archives relating to iconic regional landmark, the Nut Tree, and important ephemera and oral histories documenting the Japanese American experience during WWII incarceration. By integrating professional stewardship with inclusive outreach, the Vacaville Museum ensures that the complex, multi-layered history of Solano County remains accessible to all residents.
