Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Sacramento State Performing Arts Collective (SSPAC) will lead performing arts activities for approximately 430 low-income Sacramento City Unified School District K-8 students during a summer math & reading academy for students challenged in those subjects. Teacher-artists will lead singing, orchestra, acting, and playwriting on campus, culminating in a showcase for parents & teachers. Funds will support teacher-artist fees and operational costs.

Organization Summary

The Sacramento State Performing Arts Collective works under the auspices of the Sacramento State University School of Music, which is dedicated to providing an educational environment that cultivates creativity, informs the intellect, and inspires the imagination. Together with other programs within the College of Arts & Letters, the School of Music serves the greater Sacramento community as a vibrant and vital resource, bringing music to life through performance, outreach and education. Our calendar of activities includes concerts of classical & jazz music, historical performance, world music, and contemporary compositions for band, orchestra, choir and small ensembles in such events as Festival of the Arts, Winter Jazz Festival, U-Create, U-Nite, symposia, lectures and several subscription concert series.
