With support from the California Arts Council, THELOSTCHURCHORG INC will secure salaries for staffing of our nightly theater operations.
The Lost Church is a non-religious organization that serves as an incubator for local arts and culture by creating and maintaining sustainable small-scale theaters. Our two intimate venues in the San Francisco Bay Area are homes for regional performers that cannot fill larger rooms.
An artist can book a show at The Lost Church with the knowledge that our nonprofit will handle ticketing, promote the show, and host and handle tech needs on the evening of the performance. We do this without asking for a rental fee, opting instead to share in the door sales with the artist. This makes our small theater much more accessible to upstart performers who find themselves without many options to perform outside of neighborhood bars.
We also collaborate with local artists to create new works, residencies, and shared projects that are presented at one or both of our theaters.
Artists and audiences find a warm and inviting home at The Lost Church. We keep the capacity of our theaters low, with 138 seats in our San Francisco room and 75 in our Santa Rosa room. Our venues emphasize beauty and intimacy with intriguing decor and intentional design. Audiences are seated, and performances include an intermission to make for as few interruptions as possible. Our show hosts, the backbone of any Lost Church event, serve as attentive doorperson, emcee, and sound tech. All hosts are paid fairly, which keeps spirits high and helps ensure full participation and attention.
