With support from the California Arts Council, THEATREWORKS will dramatically expand its professional, touring Oskar series of live in-school assemblies by 30%, reaching underrepresented elementary schools (k-5) with complimentary arts education. The tour features Oskar and his friends, who address topics such as bullying, stress management, and diversity appreciation. Each installment is created in partnership with teachers, ensuring this collaboration provides impactful arts programming.
Our three core programs include mainstage productions, arts engagement programming, and new works development. We present a six-play season that contains a mix of reinvigorated classics, contemporary hits, and new works which entertain, educate, and challenge our constituents. Our New Works Initiative has developed over 200 new plays and musicals. Our education programs expose the next generation to the magic of theatre and empower their voices though playwriting programs. Our programs even extend beyond the classroom, impacting hospitalized students and their families at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and engaging students throughout the summer.
