With support from the California Arts Council, The Writers Grotto will mount Rooted & Written (RW), a workshop by and for writers of color. In Oct 2019, writers of color at The Grotto self-organized to offer this two-day workshop culminating in a public reading event. Over 160 writers applied for 35 spots, evidence of a great and unfulfilled need. RW aligns with our mission of expanding our audience for amplifying seldom-heard voices, to embolden those within our inclusive community and beyond.
The Writers Grotto nurtures a community of storytelling creatives through offering affordable co-working space in downtown San Francisco, at plans to fit all budgets.
We cultivate Rooted & Written, a mentorship program for emerging writers of color.
We foster a Fellows program dedicated to fostering emerging writers of every genre through offering no-cost work spaces on a part-time basis for six months.
We offer writing classes to the public and professional development opportunities with talks by editors, agents, publicists, prominent authors, and media professionals, who share their expertise in special seminars.
We host free public readings and events for seasoned and emerging writers to gain wide public exposure for their work.
We produce the free “GrottoPod: Writers on Writing,” podcast series featuring established and up-and-coming writers on the craft of writing.
We publish Lit Starts and the 642 Things series of books , to jumpstart writers in the writing process.
